Are You Getting The Most Value Of Your Item Upgrade
WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader
Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random extra substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.
The more modernized gear generally has a higher trade value as long as it meets low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or a very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll an exact version.
Recycle Points
The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by transferring the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be made on any type of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.
The upgrader is located in all major cities, and is accessible anytime to upgrade your equipment. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every couple of weeks to ensure that your equipment is up to date.
Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, but they will always be cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades such as upgrading a Benthic chest to 385 ilvl will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.
Valorstones
Upgrades are functional items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They can be purchased by players from Item Level Upgrade upgraders NPCs in a variety of currencies. They can also find them on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor. The button will display the item's next upgrade level when there are enough materials.
The cost of upgrading varies based on the slot of the item and the current item level. For example weapons are more expensive than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades having a discount to reduce the cost of Flightstones or crests used. After an item upgrades has been upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lower amount of the two currencies.
Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs provide an upgrade discount as well as a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount for upgrading increases as more items are upgraded. It can be increased by having players finish certain achievements or quests.
Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via several methods which is both an improvement but also a drawback.
In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. Once the player has upgraded to a certain level of item for an armor slot upgrading other items to the same item upgrading level, will cost less. This is regardless of whether the items are from an entirely different set of equipment.
The discount is applicable to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests needed to upgrade is cut too, but it is only available once certain milestones are reached.
Crests
Players have a number of options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more special and are used for specific item level upgrades. Crests are an essential part of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.
First, you must be aware that Crests are only available to gear with a certain rank. Each rank comes with distinct upgrade paths. The most basic and straightforward upgrade process costs just 15 crests while the most complicated can require as much as 20 crests depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.
Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and engaging in outdoor activities for lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulties for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can then be exchanged at an upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.
Using these new currencies isn't too complicated however, the system does introduce some changes to the overall upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade items level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.
It's also crucial to choose crests wisely, as they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's a good idea use all of your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning to create. This is especially applicable to rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character that will be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all of the slots are full of high-quality gear.
