World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Upgrades to an item are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it could boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's stats base increase when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of all of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item upgrader kit to be upgraded.

Item level is a commonly used measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips for items. It is also used to determine a gating condition when queueing for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is capped at the lower levels). The average level of the item is listed on the character sheet.

Using the item level can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's a sign of the item's damage and its quality. The level of the item can be used to compare items when looking at a vendor's inventory.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are a few theories about how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory states that the item level is calculated by an equation that determines how valuable an item's stats really are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different worth and that sockets have gems that increase the item's overall value. This can lead to an item's ilvl calculated, which is usually very close to Blizzard's real level of the item.

However, this is not the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl since the level of the area the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, for instance by adding an additional level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

The stats of an item are a major element in what determines the value of an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to use multiple weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats of a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat mods, which are themselves increased by the player's skill.

Upgrades to an Best item upgrade can increase the stats of an item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For instance, a gray or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times, at higher costs.

Another method of altering the stats of an item is through affixes. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes are used to provide items with extra damage or special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to distinguish them by naming them.

All affixes can be re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other rerolling methods.

In addition to the possibility of rerolling affixes, players may select which stats they want to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However, all items will include at least one stat in the range, unless they are an item that is unique, or a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to roll the affixes, or choose which stats to increase. As with the base equipment, this must be done per item, and the item comparison interface wouldn't display all possible stats simultaneously.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player stacks up to increase the likelihood of finding items and the properties that are spawned from loot drops, and the intensity of those properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade their equipment earlier in the game. This is more beneficial in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability that increases with each item level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can be enhanced with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to increase the value of 40 luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.

Additionally there are certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow can be outfitted to boost the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be purchased at the store or made using the correct ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. However, there are cash shop items that allow players to boost their chance of success or stop them from losing an item level upgrade if the upgrade fails.

The rate of success of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations on how much success rates can be increased and the probability of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%.

The Luck of an item can affect the effectiveness of an upgrade. Every item has a base success rate of 25% and each item with Luck increases that chance by 5percent.

Note that upgrades to items are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
