Hi!
It has been many many MANY years since I have even looked at mugen let alone made anything for the community. for those who dont know me, I have made several DC themed stages in the past (mostly for superman) such as the fortress of solitude, lantern warzone, doomsday in metropolis, krypton etc. lately I have had the urge to revisit the wonderful world of mugen and I got to thinking, why not make a stage for my beautiful city?! This is a very stylized representation of Calgary, Canada. ( my home town). It will be be part of a much larger set of stages for all major cities in my country! I am sick of canadian cities never being featured in games, and rarely in movies so I figured it was time to spread the beauty and awesomeness of these places!
For this stage, anyone who is from Calgary or knows of the city and has been here will notice a couple of things right off the bat. 1 - the buildings are not all in accurate geographical positions - the side scrolling nature of mugen made me re-position the buildings so as to show off all of the notable ones in all their glory. 2- there are a couple of buildings that are not completed in the real world as of yet (Brookfield Place 1&2, Telus Sky, Palliser one and two etc). I figured I would future proof the stage and add them now as they will be a part of the skyline soon enough. 3- the residential being on the river is not accurate but was put there to represent the unique aspect of how Calgary has a massive commercial core, but only 100 feet across the river, has simple houses, and rural suburbs right there.
this is by no means the most complex stage I have ever made, but I wanted to go for a clean crisp subtle representation of this fine City and for that I think I succeeded! I had to use some trickery to create the river effects and reflections but I love the way they turned out. I will likely add people and birds and stuff down the road as I have always had the tendency to continue tinkering with my stages as time goes on....
so.... enjoy Calgary! my home, immortalized into the pixelated world! Like I said, I will be doing other major Canadian cities as well (in my own stylized way) in the near future so I hope you enjoy these as much as I have enjoyed making this!
