Upgrades boost the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. They also boost extra bonuses like PvE damage and crit chance.

For example an item with the upgrade template that is ending in % will suffer 3damage to attack each time it is upgraded (relative to its previous value).

Item upgrading costs crests and the current level of the item. The cost increases as the item level increases.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be slotted into armor, weapons and trinkets to provide an additional stat boost or impact while they're being used. They can be acquired through crafting, purchasing from vendors, trading or looting. Some upgrades can also be accompanied by specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to equipment with a slot. The item must be at least upgraded to blue level before the component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied only once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and enrichments are a specific kind of upgrade component used for non-amulet ascended and legendary equipment as well as the back items that are not ascending. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

An upgrade may be prefixed or a suffix, modifying the name of the item to which it is used (for instancefor example "Canthan Armor Insignia' becomes Canthan Armor of Minor Vigor). Certain upgrades can increase the Mark Level or Rarity of an item, which lets players create stronger versions with less Upgrade crystals than they require to reach the same level with normal methods.

A 'boost' upgrade can change the attack or defence attributes of a weapon, or armor. These upgrades are available to be made from the Portative Forging Station once the player has completed the cutscene and defeats the Crazed Mechanic. These upgrades can be purchased by purchasing them in the cash shop or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other equipment.

Each upgrade increases the probability that a better-quality version of the item will be dropped at the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue upgrading their gear even if they're not sure of how much they'll improve following a subsequent reset.

The process of upgrading an item can be costly and it is likely that the item will eventually become obsolete, or even break, when the upgrade fails. Upgrade Crystals and assist powders are also destroyed when the upgrade fails. Cash shop items can be used to reduce or eliminate the possibility of failure. Some upgrades also offer a bonus if reinserted.

Glyphs

Glyphs can be used to improve the Paragon Board by placing them in special sockets. Glyphs boost the power of all nodes in their radius and include pre-existing affixes to equipment. Glyphs can be upgraded in numerous ways. We suggest upgrading them as soon as you can to level 15.

In the endgame you'll often discover that the best way to improve your gear is to place Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded to level 15 and provide significant boosts to your power on the Paragon Board.

Glyphs, the only upgrade component which can be removed without restriction and then replaced again are the most commonly used. The only exception is legendary equipment that requires an Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and then re-install.

The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it from your inventory. You can choose to replace it with another Glyph of the same rank or higher rank, which will boost the value of the glyph.

You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of a Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain gathering tools that are unlimited-use and also through Faction Crypt raids. Every Faction Crypt will drop one of these Glyphs. There are also some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.

Once you have obtained the desired Glyphs you will need them to be placed on your equipment. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that will boost a particular set of stat nodes within a radius around the Glyph. This will either be +40 for one of your primary stats or +25 for two of your secondary stats, based on the Glyph.

Utilizing the Glyph will boost all nodes that are connected to it, and you should try to place your Glyphs near key nodes on the Graph to maximise the impact. Druids for instance, should place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may also consider placing them near their critical damage nodes.

Leveling

The item upgrading system allows players to increase the effectiveness of certain items by placing upgraded components in them. This is referred to as "upping". Each upgradeable item has an amount that determines the final statistics. Upgraded items can be leveled up to a maximum of 385. Each item level requires a different amount of components to be reached and the costs for upgrading increase as the item is advanced in level.

Certain upgrades require a specific ingredient to activate. This ingredient can be obtained by finishing Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be found in the upgrade tab of a crafting table or bought from NPCs. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns several Technology Points. These points can be used for the upgrading of an item. Once enough points are earned you'll be eligible to claim the upgrade and also receive the bonuses.

When an individual player upgrade a piece of equipment, the base item will be replaced by a new item. The same armor can be transformed into a weapon or a shield when upgraded. The new item comes with its own set bonus. This could be a disadvantage, as the item can be more expensive even if you do not need it.

Item upgrades can sometimes be rerolled, provided that the player has enough tokens to do this. The item will be replaced with the same item level upgrade, but it has a level 1 basis and completely different bonuses. This can be useful for some items, but it shouldn't be performed frequently, since it can use up lots of resources.

Some upgrades can be rerolled many times to increase their value, giving players the ability to alter their gear. Dolphin's Gift is a good example, as it provides a buff if the player repeatedly enters or exits water. This item can be upgraded many times and increases the maximum roll each time by 10 increments. This item can be very useful in PvP battles, since the best version of it could be worth between 20 and 50 times its non-upp'd value.

Requirements

Item upgrading allows players to increase the level of their available gear--armor, weapons and trinkets that are above ilvl 385 by presenting the appropriate items and currencies to an NPC who upgrades items. Upgrading armor set pieces will also boost the defense base of the piece, whereas upgrading weapon items will increase the base damage and the strength and dexterity required to meet the upgraded equipment's requirements.

Each item can be upgraded a maximum of five times, with the exception of hero gear, which can be upgraded with eight upgrades. Each time you upgrade an item it is given the chance to fail. The failure rate increases the more you go beyond the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures can result in the item returning to its initial state which means that the player has to pay for more items than if they stopped upgrading after the maximum number.

If an item fails to upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item upgrader kit also loses any bonuses it gained like crit chance damage to attack, other effects (such as a higher healing rate over time or reloading speed). The player will be able to use their weapon or armor after the failure.

When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that when a weapon is upgraded, if it gains a crit chance increase that it will be applied prior to any attack damage increases. Slots is a new attribute that was added to the definitions of items. The value is recalculated every time an upgrade occurs.

The amount of resources required to upgrade an item is based on the rarity rating and the number of upgrade slots. The upgrade cost for non-premium items is equal to the base value of the upgrade--for example, a common equipment item could have five upgrades at a cost of 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero grade items will have the lowest cost for each additional upgrade.

Premium items could have different upgrade requirements than regular gear. For example, they may need less sowels, but they will require more minerals and orons. The player will still need to take every piece of gear they wish to upgrade to NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine. Each upgrade of equipment will require different amounts of upgrade ingredients in addition to the costs listed above.
