WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boosts in certain statistics. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by 3. A random substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

Upgraded gear is generally more useful, unless the item is not required by nature (like FB sorc shields) or a high stat variance (like eth Titan weapons). The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader enables players to upgrade their gear to a higher Item Level Upgrade level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can also be used to create enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended that you visit the upgrader at least once every few weeks, to ensure that your equipment is up-to-date.

Upgrades will cost more depending on the item level, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new equipment. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest up to the level of ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. If you purchase a similar item upgrade, it will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used for weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. Players can purchase them from NPCs of item upgraders for a variety of currencies. They are also available on random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will display the preview of an item's next level of upgrade, in the event that there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading is based on the slot of the item and current item level and the weapon's price is higher than gloves or bracers, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones plus a set number of crests. Some upgrades offer discounts on Flightstones. After an item has been upgraded to a certain level it can be re-downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items are available at many locations on the main island, as well as a few outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade coupon and the chance to obtain a new recipe. The discount for upgrades increases depending on the amount of items that are being upgraded. It is also possible to be boosted by having players complete specific achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II, there is no upgrader for items at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead, the NPCs that are available to help with upgrades require several methods, which is both an improvement as well as a disadvantage.

In Season 3, the upgrade item system was altered a bit, with several new features added. Once an upgrade has been completed to a specific level for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true regardless of whether the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required for upgrades is decreased, and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is reduced as well, but is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have a number of choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an item that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are utilized during specific item upgrades level upgrades. Crests are the main component of the Dragonflight gear progression system, which was introduced in 10.1 and are available in 4 ranks.

First, you should know that Crests are only available to equipment with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and easiest upgrade is 15 crests. The most complex upgrade could require as much as 20 crests, depending on the type of gear that is being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by finishing content at the appropriate level, whether that means walking around and doing outdoor activities for gear of lower tiers, raids or dungeons of any difficulty for higher-tier items or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons to obtain endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader for the item upgrader kit like Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

The use of these currencies isn't too complicated however, the system introduces some changes to the overall upgrade process. When a piece has reached the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer), it no longer requires Flightstones. This change lets players upgrade their equipment to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters rather than relying on seasonal loot.

It's also important to use crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. For instance, it's best to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests with the best equipment you have, and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests to use for the next set of upgrades you plan to make. This is especially true for items like trinkets and rings that occupy multiple slots on the character which will only be able to benefit from the account-wide discount when all slots are full of high-quality gear.
