Pokemon DS Games advice...what should i catch?(UPDATED)

I recently started playing Pokemon Diamond emulated in No$Gba...i got up to the second gym now and i want to know...what pokemons should i get?Because i don`t know half of these new guys...here`s what i have so far:
Geodude lv22
Prinplup lv 25
Luxio Lv23
Ponyta lv 22
Staravia lv 20/Noctowl lv22(i don´t know which one i should keep in my team)
Happiny egg

I think I got up to Palkia with 3 or 4 pkmn and I know the first pkmn I really started to train was Machop (very useful IMO). I chose the leaf pkmn as my starter. The other two I got were Haunter (thru an in-game trade, I don't remember where the girl is) which is extremely useful with the right moveset, and a Gyarados (thru GTS, also very useful). As painful as it may sound, your best bet is to level up a magikarp and Gastly (or find that in-game trade). It'll make things much easier. Besides, once you get up to Palkia/Dialga its all smooth sailing from there.

You want an awesome and devastating pokemon, capture Gabite and evolve it to Garchomp and the classics like Alakazam an Gengar are a must also. Others like Luxray and Lucario are good also

Gengar would be excellent considering you can catch it in the wild now(In the deserted Chateau)And Steelix(On Iron Island) But it would be better if you play it on the actual DS rather than emulation.Anyway Buizel would be a better choice for a water pokemon than Bidoof since Buizel evolves into Floatzel because it's extremely fast.Chimchar is the best fire type you'll get for a while.Seedot would be a good grass type Starly is an excellent flying type since it evolves into Staraptor and it learns a fighting move called close combat it'll be easier to beat rock types and steel types with it.Anyway good luck dude with your game your going to need it especially since the Elite Four is much tougher now.

Get your hands on an Evee and evolve it into a Leafeon, best choice for a grass type. High defence and you can mix strong Grass type moves with Physical attacks like Take Down, high attack points = pwnage. Did I mention strong defence?

Any other advices??Because i can´t get Gengar or Alakazam yet as i don´t play through real DS(only emulated and i cannot trade it in yet like i can in GBA 
EDIT:Ponyta learns Fireblast...so no dropping at all
this one has been improved since gold and silver...

this one has been improved since gold and silver...

It's best that you keep Ponyta. It's one of the 2 only fire pokemon you'll see in the game until you get the National Pokedex.

You CAN get Gengar in the wild you know.I found it in the deserted Chateau in that forest.It's in the room with the eyes but it's RARE not even the Pokedex will tell you where it's at.But it'll be at a low level though. OH YEAH before I forget whatever you do DO NOT TRADE MEDICHAM FOR HAUNTER IN SNOWPOINT CITY!!Because the Haunter you'll recieve will have an everstone on it so it will NOT be Gengar when you get it.

You can make save games changing the settings of the emulator,that`s how i play it so far(but i cannot save states,for example,before catching a pokemon to save balls...i need to play like the real DS)

Yep.Oh yeah I completely forgot about that yeah a GBA pokemon game is required I forgot which one though.

You can use sapphire, Ruby or Emerald too. Doesn't No$GBA let you use the Gba slot too? If it does,
then try to get your hands on a R/S/E/FR/LG ROM and just use that.

If you use Ruby or Sapphire you'll get a 5% chance of getting Gengar to appear dude.With Fire Red or Leaf Green it's a 50% chance.

Well remove Graveler and Kadabra since they won't evolve and put Steelix and Golbat in there plus Golbat will evolve into Crobat if you get it to like you enough.

Steelix might be better in main stats than Graveler,but most of his attacks are not that good(unlike Graveler/Golem,that they even learn Earthquake...)Until he learns Iron Tail,he`s pretty much useless
Question:What attacks should i give to Empoleon?
he has Surf,Brine,Fury Attack(still) and Peck(Still  changing it to Aerial ace as we speak)
Any advice to replace brine and fury attack?thx...

try putting some steel type moves in there, since he is part steel, and maybe an ice attack(always good with water types)

You'll get the TMs Avalanche,Rock Slide and Earthquake later.Give Rock Slide and Earthquake to Steelix and Avalanche to Empoleon when you get it.Empoleon will learn Drill peck later to so just train it until it learns it.The attacks of my Empleon were Shadow Claw,Drill Peck,Surf,&Avalanche.Avalanche is just like Rock Slide it has the same power and accuracy it just does Ice damage.Steelix learns Iron
Tail by itself so you got to train it.Or if your patient you can just hatch that egg the guy gives you on Iron Island and what you'll get is Riolu(Lucario's Pre evolved form)And train to LV 28 since that's the level it eveolves.

i heard that from almost everyone, Lucario when raised to lvl 100 doesnt even have that good stats, so stay away from him for now

I only raised it to LV. 50.Darn I thought Riolu evolved through Lving it up.Oh well.Kadabra would be nice to keep since it's special attack is freakishly high.Lucario is Fighing and Steel and it has good moves and it's speed attack and special attack power is all that it is good on.It's a good pokemon in my opinion but I wouldn't recomend bringing it to the elite four.Anyway good luck Dude.You get Rock Slide late in the game and earthquake too I believe and I think the 7th Gym leader Candice gives you Avalanche after beating her.
