I was thinking of making a SSB style Link, the only sprite I've seen that I liked, sorta, is this Y. Link character:

Now, my question is, is this an original character!? If not, who was used as the base? Do you guys have any suggestions on what base I could use!?

donnovan wouldn't work as a like, methinks.

you don't nessecarily need a guy who holds a sword so much as you need a guy who looks like he COULD hold a sword. I would post an example ,but none come to mind at the moment.

failing that, there are plenty of samurai showdown, last blade, and fate stay-night characters with weapons.

That young link is actually an edit of some kid from Kabuki Clash. Maybe Ziria, I think? But definitely from that game. It wouldn't be too hard to make additional sprites using the unfinished open source character.
