anime recommendations

i think we should have one of this so i will start with some
AIR(a lot of people think this is one of the greatest or the best anime ever,i think it is just medium but worth watching)
Kanon 2006(medium too but better than AIR)
Clannad(i think this the best one out of the three KEY animes)
abenobashi(very funny,the first episodes is really boring but the others are very funny,it is a parody to other animes,EX:sashi in episode 4 transforms into super saiyan and uses kamehameha on "papan")
ranma(one of the best animes i have ever seen,in my top 5 without any doubt)
fate stay night
hokuto no ken(easily the best anime ever)
azumanga daioh
one piece(the first episodes are kind of boring,but the anime is always getting better)
bleach(i dont even have to say anything about this)
ghost hunt(its like mystery like higurashi but i like this one more)
school rumble(i like more of the manga but the anime is still good)
fullmetal alchemist(but if you can,forget about the anime and just read the manga)
and finally Those Who Hunt Elves(i love this anime,junpei is my favorite char)

Typically, my favorite animes are the ones that hardly anyone knows about.  I'm a huge fan of the GONZO animation studio, so pretty much anything by them is worth watching.

My recommendations are:

Mushi-Shi - In my opinion, the best quality anime being produced today.  There's nothing else like it.
Read Or Die - The OVA is probably my favorite anime ever made.
ROD the TV - Not as good as the OVA, but still one of my favs.
Elfen Lied - If you've got the stomach to handle it, it's a really great and beautiful show.
Speed Grapher - I just like this one a lot for some reason.
Basilisk - It's basically Romeo & Juliet with ninjas.  Not gay Naruto ninjas, but cool ninjas.
GetBackers - If you've never seen it, GO WATCH IT NOW!!!
Trinity Blood - The ending isn't that great, but the series itself is good.
Burst Angel - A lot of people hate this series, but I love it!
Bleach - Season 1 ONLY.  Afterwards it turns into yet another gay Naruto-like series.

ps:to spaceman,i have seen almost all of those you said(except read or die,burst angel and mushi-shi),and i think unknown animes are better(evangelion sucks,haruhi is really boring to me,higurashi is almost always the same with one of them going crazy and killing everyone and lucky star is not that great in my opinion)

One thing that irritates me is more and more, animes get hard to follow unless your a devout manga reader. Bleach and Tenjho Tenge are both much better if you read the mangas.

Also, am I the only person on the planet who dislikes Trigun? Kinda feels like it.

If you haven't seen Read or Die, you MUST SEE IT!!!  In my opinion, it should be considered mandatory viewing alongside shows like Cowboy Bebop.

Mushi-Shi is quite possibly the most artistically intricate show I've seen in a long time.  It's not for everyone, though.  It'll either completely enthrall and entice you (like in my case), or it will bore you to death.

And Burst Angel is also known as Bakuretsu Tenshi in Japan, so you might have seen it and not known.
