Charging a "punch"

Ok i got this intresting idea for an attack im working on for sniper joe.
Im working on a physical attack were he pulls back and if you hold it down it gets stronger to a point and lets its self off.
Kinda like how Tetsu has that charging kick attack.
So i want to try this out with my shield breaker but im not quite sure how to go about it.
Any tips or adivce or anyway i can do this simply?

there are differents ways to do these,

the statedef that charges the attack has to have 2 or more changestates, the trigger could be like these

trigger1 = command = "holdbutton" && time = [2,20] ; these means that will change to one statedef if you hold the button from 2 to 20 ticks

the strongest could be

trigger1 = command = "holdbutton" && time =21
