The Ultimate Smash Bros Fan Game
« on: December 02, 2007, 11:25:09 PM »
For a while I've been having this crazy dream of creating a Super Smash Bros fangame, but one so good that it wouldn't feel like anything less then an official (however handheld) game. I am looking for people willing to assist me in this venture, at this point of time I am looking for artists since programmers won't be needed until a decent amount of the sprite-work has been done. I have NOT decided on a sprite style as of yet, or a roster for that matter, since I would like this to be decided by my team. I am capable of making background tiles and am currently studying the art of background scenery, so I will use these to assist in the game since I don't want to just be like "No, not what I want."

Any artist who participates, depending on which area they will work in, will decide a character or stage to be in the game, even if they cannot make it themselves someone else on the team will (or at least, try.) Character movesets, however, will be discussed by the team as a whole. Aiming for no clones.

There are some characters I will not permit to not be included, and we will have at least three third-party franchises (Yes, one will be Sonic.)

Anybody who wants to join me, please post here with a sample of your work and what area of the game you would like to work in.

OH! Before I forget. Later on I will be looking for people to compose background music based on the music used in games, so anybody interested in that please get ready for a few stages to get sprited.

I appreciate those of you who took the time to read this and appreciate those of you who want to help out even more.

Mario running around in the nude :p

It's unfortunate for me to say this, but I'm considering not allowing editted sprites. As for content, any character owned by Nintendo will be permitted. Third-Parties will be discussed later. Licensed characters (Doki Doki Panic and Popeye for example) will also be discussed once I have a team/more interest. Other then that, I'm hoping for a large roster so just about any character you can think of will be included (I myself will be pulling for someone to assist in the makings of Ryota and Akari Hayami from the WaveRace and 1080 series.)

I hope that answered your question Mr. Spider-Mew.

Well if your not going to allow edited sprites i dont see how then the project will be well receved.
First you should decide on an art style, and then have all your sprite editors work on making characters fit into that style. Not allot of people can make sprites from scratch.

I was gonna find some spriters and have a custom style specifically for the game. It's not a MUGEN project, this is going to be an actual SSB game, simply in 2D.

So I have some spriters interested, but they want to see a programmed demo first x.X;
I have been convinced that C++ is the way to go.

Now the spriters have told me that with the said demo we can use simple ripped sprites with no special attacks, they just want to see how well the engine can be replicated.

Volunteers?

Just a crazy thought of mine, but shouldn't you be the one to make the engine? I mean, it is your idea and all, and well.....it wouldn't exactly be your game anymore if someone were to make the engine for you. Maybe you could get the C++ For Dummies book. It really helps.
You are now the final object of the 2538. Bring them together, and show us your smile.

I've considered it, and I'll continue to consider it, especially if I can't find anybody else.
