Marvel vs Capcom Infinite Thread
« on: November 29, 2016, 09:07:47 AM »
And here we go:

Marvel and Capcom characters will duke it out in a new crossover fighting game coming to consoles next year. Multiple sources tell Polygon that Marvel vs. Capcom 4 is currently in development and slated for release sometime in 2017.

Although Capcom hasn’t officially announced the game, we’ve been told the company will unveil Marvel vs. Capcom 4 this week alongside Sony’s PlayStation Experience event where the Capcom Cup 2016 Street Fighter 5 tournament will be held.

Fans of the series should expect Marvel vs. Capcom 4's roster of Marvel characters to draw strongly from the cinematic universe that Marvel Studios has popularized — and has full control over — during the past decade. That means fighting game fans will more likely see characters plucked from The Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy films, and not from properties like the X-Men. Expect to see superheroes like Ant-Man and Groot make appearances, with characters of mutant origin — think Wolverine and Magneto — sitting out this entry.

A lack of X-Men characters in the next Marvel vs. Capcom would be a major departure for the franchise, which has roots that extend back to Capcom’s 1994 fighting game, X-Men: Children of the Atom.

The last game in the crossover franchise, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, was released in early 2011 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A follow-up, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, was released later that year. Those games featured X-Men mainstays Wolverine, Magneto, Phoenix, Storm, X-23 and Sentinel as playable characters.

Capcom's license with Marvel expired in 2013, and the Marvel vs. Capcom games and their downloadable content were pulled from Microsoft and Sony's online stores at the end of that year. Capcom hasn't been able to make changes to the games since, despite pleas from fans to update the game.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's popularity among fighting game fans remains strong, however. The game is still featured at the annual Evo fighting game tournament, and we've heard that there may be good news for fans of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 specifically coming soon as well.

When we spoke to Marvel Games vice president Jay Ong earlier this year, he said the team at Marvel was well aware of fan interest in seeing another Marvel vs. Capcom game.

"There's nothing we can say at this time," Ong told Polygon at the time. "Let's just say that we hear that a lot. We love our fans and we certainly want to please them. Beyond that we can't say anything at this time. But who knows what the future holds?"

When reached for comment, a spokesperson told Polygon via email “Capcom does not comment on rumors or speculation.”

A bit disappointed at the removal of X-Men, but I guess I shouldn't be too surprised given the tiff between Fox and Marvel.

Interesting if they add in deadpool? And legion?
hard not to, but as far as xmen they are the core original team within the franchise, I'm actually surprised if they dont add the original xmen characters
atleast as downloadable content if they wanted to keep the mcu as the front and centre roster for marvels side

and who would be the big bad? Thanos maybe, he has yet to be added to the mvc3 version and was pretty much the original big bad in msh

Wow this would be great if it really happens. And I'm happy if they take out the x-men from the game. To be honest, it got boring because of the other many cool character that would be more refreshing. If anything I would not mind them as dlc. Just imaging characters like the fantastic four, kang, molecule man, the beyonder, namor, daredevil, doc ock finally, black bolt, medusa, Ronan and few others I can't think of right now. This are characters that for game wise, they bring new unique play style to a game. I mean if they going with same style of what they been doing, then they got all the character that been out so far for sf 4 and 5 plus the marvel characters.

Either way I can wait to see or hear more news

Sadly, Fox also has their claws over the Fantastic Four, so I doubt they'll make it either ... again  :-w

I AM interesting in seeing who else they'd get. I mean obviously we'll finally get to see official fighting game debuts of people like Black Widow, Vision, and a whole lot of other favorites. But who else would they pick from their ranks. Maybe Captain Marvel to promote the upcoming movie?

You are a little late, buddy :)

I pray they don't decide to include B characters or characters that Marvel is forcing to people for years, like Miss crap Marvel, The Female Thor and such.

On a second thought I think that Avengers (Civil War cast) will dominate the Marvel side due to popularity

I hear ya. Not that I care too much, but female Thor would look really stupid. Unfortunatley you might be right lol. I noticed when capcom design their character they focus on their actual look so this is very likely to happen.

Ok, for a minute I was actually wondering why we haven't been talking about this all week.

Let's brass tax for a bit: Marvel is trying to straight up BURY anything that they don't have control of. It's the whole reason they pulled all those games off retail and digital in the first place. MVC: Origins, MVC2 HD, MVC3, U:MVC3, Deadpool (which had like JUST came out not even a month before), any game that feature characters they don't have complete control of got yanked.

It's gonna be weird having a MVC come out with no Wolverine, but such is the state of comics these days. Now, the $100,000 question is this: With the reveal rumored to be confirmed @ Capcom Cup, does that imply that Marvel vs Capcom 4 is going to be a PS4 exclusive?

"Sadly, Fox also has their claws over the Fantastic Four, so I doubt they'll make it either ... again  "

Foxe´s Fantastic Four movies have a lifespan of about 7 years if I am not mistaken. So if Fox does nothing until 2022, the rights revert to Marvel. The franchise is obviously dead and considered hazardous for now (and for quite some time) but I doubt Fox will loosen the grip until such date.

Carnage might be too brutal for a game like this. And if they'll make him, they will transform him into a less graphic version like Disney would do. I'd rather see no Carnage than a censored Carnage.

Honestly, I think you're being a bit too brash. Disney doesn't have THAT big an influence over Marvel, you know

That being said, I have a feeling they'd rather use a more iconic Spider-Man villain like Green Goblin or Doc Ock or just bring back Venom (assuming they even decide to bring in a second Spider-Man character)

U can expect that they will bring back the roster from the third one and just add new ones. On the street fighter side I bet all those new characters will be in. On marvel side they should do doc ock for sure. Daredevil is a must and because of the avengers  movies we should expect black panther and vision in this. Scarlet witch I'm not too crazy for because there is already dr strange but what about quicksilver? That can be interesting since they never done a speedster. Still I hope for a big roster in the 40 plus, lol!!! Even thru download content they can add many characters, I'm really down for that.

Quicksilver sounds awesome thought he can be considered as an X-Men char and he might not make his entry in the roster!!

If the news about the X-Men is true, then I'm more than a bit disappointed by the childishness displayed here by Marvel/Disney.

Though some of it could also be influenced by the popularity of alot of Marvel's recent movies/tv shows, which have given lesser-knowns much more exposure than before. Guardians of the Galaxy, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Black Panther, Ultron, Luke Cage, Daredevil, etc.

See it from this point of view, Marvel can only start hoping on getting the franchise back if Fox does a poor job handling them to a point of no return.
That´s why the Inhumans are the new mutants in the marvel Universe.
