The truth about my spriting ambition
« on: August 21, 2014, 05:38:59 PM »
To tell you the truth, guys, i wanted to be an MVC sprite artist when i was age of 7, to sprite the characters from the old games like arcades such as AVP and the others that i never played before or played it. When that happened, i tried to sprite characters such as Predator Warrior from AVP arcade in MVC style, but it ended up horribly, as my spriting skills are wonky and horrible for me. I tried many other characters to sprite them in MVC style, but it did the same thing, as i had to try to improve my skills, thus also ended up being horribly as well, and that was the ambition that i gave up on to be an MVC sprite artist. It didn't motivate me to become spriter, and i lack spriting skills, cause i can't find time to do it. And i tell you now, people: you may think i am arrogant or i say myself that i am arrogant, but i am not, cause it didn't work for me. As of today, i had moved to other things to do about Mugen; collecting the characters and stages.

The only time that i'll rip the sprites is Lt. Linn Kurosawa from AVP arcade, as i'm attempting to make a full sheets for her. And i hope, one day, when someone decides to convert her into MVC sprite style once i finished her full sheets, i will be ok with that.

Hope you'll understand the thing i have told you about, people.

I hear you kandoom, but imma share something with you as well. Not to change your mind or anything but if does may serve as some inspiration. I started 4 years ago and did my first sprite...to me it looked horrible. My bro Demonkai just kept pushing me to keep trying. Got with manic, nestor and li kun and studied tuts, watched  Frankenspriting with Spidermew and just kept practicing as I even started projects. I still tell myself everyday I can do better even if folks like what I sprited. It takes time, and most important...patience and practice. I am still a noob. lol.  Spriting is a beautiful thing and I also always think if a hobo like me can lewrn it and keep on learning to get better and finally complete my dream stuff then anyone with talent or without can def do it too. Time is always the key factor no matter what tho. Hope to see you one day go for it and achieve what you always wanted to sprite and look a good as you want them to be bro.

The spriting struggle is real!  XD||

I know, mate. I would've been in your place for that, but alas, it is struggling. I could've done something different when it comes to spriting, but then again, it is really struggling.

Most or non of us are professional sprite makers. If you have fun doing it then I suggest to keep trying. You might not can sprite a whole character by yourself, but maybe you can team up with somebody of like mind and work together to make a character. Most people don't care if it's 100% perfect and you can always go back a do touch ups to characters you've worked on as your skills improve.

I... Kinda have to agree with you right there, Electro. Teaming up with somebody is something that i would require to have, but going on it's own is very difficult and frustrating. I'm not saying i hate it, but that is very time consuming, and i don't know how long i would have to work on it, even slower. Perhaps, if more help is on the way to boost the work fast, then it would be really good, but again, i don't know what should i do. Perhaps if i decide to be an MVC sprite artist again, i'm definitely willing to do so, but as of now, my time is running out, as i have a job starting in 1st September on Monday.

Even for those that are professionally train ( one of them being me. ) It takes time to create  characters. in 5 or 6 years time ive only done 3 characters (currently working on third.) This is nothing more then a hobby and like all hobbies its about fun. Take your time keep practicing. Talk to people, get tips, examine others work. Open up fighter factory and view others sprite work.

Riding your self because you not that good is foolish. Beside what is good and bad? They only get meaning through our perception of the world. Took me a long time to realize that as and artist.  Draw for the sake of drawing and enjoy it. Because its (mugen) a hobby you can go back and change things at your leaser like Electro said. We all were at the bottom at one point and time. For me it was very hard being professionally trained as and 2d/ 3d animator and being at the bottom. With that type of training you gain a since of arrogance and now because i swallowed my pride and chilled at the bottom i can say im up there with the best for certain, not just boasting.  And its because of the peoples support here and my own determination but most importantly because i had fun learning and growing. ( yes my grammer is bad sue me. lol.)

I sincerely doubt that, Rage. But i will have to try, and if it ends up being horrible, tell me what i must improve. Finding the way on how to sprite in MVC style is not gonna be that easy, even the old characters that i never see them before, but want to convert them in MVC style. I suppose i will take that suggestion of what you're saying, Rage.

:4 will one day someday be a professional!  \-/o ... XD||  then i can be a professional spriting hobo then!  no more panhandling at the gas station!  :D
yup just as Rage and electro stated there are many ways to achieve in the hobby what you want to be made.  Since MVC style is the cup of tea you wanna go at with i would say def if interested hook up with some cool folks who really know the style good too. They can give great insight and let you know where and what issues in the design style are applied which way and what not. The other route is also as said too, examine others works, then too can see how light sourcing ,shading  and scale sizes and all the jazz and pieces flow and work. To me mvc style is one of the most seen in comics  characters but still takes work depending on what your going for. I started off in cvs but still did cvs ish like stuff then grasped the concept of mvc  by looking at works by people who sprite in mvc . If you team up with someone on the wip def gotta be on same page with ideas too. I have seen good collabs through the years and good products made. Hmm good idea too is show what you got in mind at some point when you ready and some cool folks may come out to join forces with you on it and share the workload.

there are some key tuts around with visual aid on how mvc style is done in perspective basics. i had one years ago.  :'( cant find it now. but there are sites with it.  time def is a major factor and i think i got a good 10 years left...maybe  before i roll on out. i will be a grandpop by then...i hope not. trying to keep my teens in line to get they life situated before makin any lil ones down the line. lol. Just utilize the time you have set for yourself wisely and sparingly  bro. All should be good for ya man. Wish you well on the work bro. ::salute::
