pallet question

ok here is my problem. i have a pallet set up and have been using it for awhile now with my charecter. i have edited a new sprite, added the colors of the pallet and changed them in the new sprite. when i add the sprite to the sff it is all messed up unless i treat it like a fireball or fx and dont tie it to my pallet. how do i make it so its the same colors AND the same pallet?

Show me what you mean in images because i might know what your talkin about and if i do i got an answer coz i always have that problem

its not something i could show with a pic.
they are 2 different sprites that look the same, made from the same colors. i think the problem is that (just as an  example) if black were color 3 the in the pallet in sprite 1 it may be color 56 in sprite 2, so when i try to make sprite 2 work with sprite 1s pallet color 56 is now green and color 3 is a flesh tone. i think thats whats going on. i need to know how to move the colors around within the pallet so it will work. (man that sounds confusing!)
