Billy, the Blue Mighty Morphin' Power Ranger (Movie version)

Well guys, I have some news that can be good or bad, depends if you like my work or not,
...but I am in charge of coding Blue Ranger




He is still on early stages because I am busy coding other chars and still be busy for some time, but he is on the works now

Yeah! This is one of the secret projects I've been working on!
To be honest, yes, he'll be using a LOT of Captain Commando for bases, but don't worry, I plan to throw in more unique stuff, especially for Special and Super moves. Here are a few samples:


-Why Billy? I need dat Red Ranger yo.
 Because Billy's the underdog! Jason or Tommy would've been the obvious choises. Plus, Tommy has that additional armor.
 Though with helmetswaps, it'll be quick to get a Black, Red or Green Ranger (green with the added attributes) along.
 Reusing the base for the females is a no-go for me, that's just not sexy enough for me dawg.

-Movie custume, ey? The simple series spandex would've been easier...
 But not as awesome! Also, I'd like to note there seem to be two versions of the Movie outfit, as seen below. I based my design on the one on the right.

The only thing I left out is the Dino Coin symbol on the chest. Too troublesome. Though the Morpher on the belt came out nice I think.
 I did leave out the gunholster and the gun as well... I left out some lines on the gloves as well, though I did get all the diamont shapes! The design of his back (mainly the shoulder blades section) I changed a bit as well. Oh and the helmet is based on the series version (it has the silver trim along the visor, and the visor has harder angles. I don't like the roundiness of the Blue Ranger's movie helmet).

-Dude I would like to suggest -insert whatever Power Ranger from whatever series-.
 Nope.

-Has a movelist been planned?
 I'm tinkering with it, yeah. I got some ideas. I'll probably have him use his Tricera Lance for Supers only. I WON'T be adding assists, be it other Rangers or Zords. This guy can take proper care of himself! I want to have a lot of cool martial arts stuff instead. For example:

C'mon son, you know I'm putting in some Scott Adkins action. Yeah you'll have to excuse the jumpyness of that animation, it's still in progress!

At the moment, this is what's finished:
-idle (not animated yet)
-all guards (standing, crouching, jumping)
-all jumps (forward, up, backwards), and jump-landing
-crouching
-turning and crouch turning
-dash
-get up
-standing strong kick
-jumping weak punch and kick
-warp intro

A couple of other animations are in progress.

Dude!!!!!!! I was a MMPR fanatic when I was a kid. This looks really cool. Those sprites look awesome! Is that CPS3 style? Love the colors used, has a slight purple hue to it, like in the movie/show. Love that morphing intro. Perfect. The one and only tiny, minor, nitpick I would give is Billy's hair in that intro looks blonde. His hair is light brown. There's plenty of voice clips from the show you can use too! Lots of cheesy, "morphin'" catchphrases you could use when Billy pulls off a large combo.

I too agree Billy is a bit of an underdog along with Zack. He's got one of the better looking costumes/helmets IMO. All of the MMPR's are cool. Billy is no exception.

Anyway, really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. This feels fresh and fun.
Really hope to see some good martial arts moves. Will he be using the weapons he uses in the movie or TV show? You should give him at least one move with his staff weapon. It's sad we never see him use it much in the show.

When I have more free time, I will post some move and intro ideas. Looks like this is in good hands.

The movie version he didn't have the glasses. Right around that time and the second season,  he got rid of the glasses and jean overalls.

I only hope that this wip will bring out future rangers from the original series as well.

Hey this is good news man. Blue looking killer so far!

Balthazar doing a great work like always and I think we can expect crazy action with you coding it.

Some more thoughts:
If Billy loses and lies on the ground, he should un-morph to human form. MMPR were always un-morphing when they were defeated.

Intro/win pose idea: have him ride in the flying beetle car Billy invents! Or if you create a stage for him, have the car in the background.

You could try finding sound effects from the show for the "swoosh" sounds when Billy punches or kicks. If you listen during the opening theme intro, you can hear the sounds I'm talking about.

LOVING this project! Been a fan of the Rangers and their Super Sentai counterparts since it appeared in the US in 93 (or was it 96?)! Anyway, the only suggestion I have is on that teleport intro/anim. Maybe add some slight electricity to it like it is in the show. I don't remember how present it was in the movie version as I don't know that the teleport was shown from the point of origin (from what I remember anyway). I think in the movie it really only showed the teleportation in midair from point-to-point. I could be wrong though. I say SLIGHT cause it looked really cheap in the show through the first three seasons, then they switched to that cool Turbo teleport animation/effect and I was happy. So maybe just adding it in as a transparency or something would suffice (I'm no creator so forgive me if that was the wrong term here...)?

Alright I went with the browner hair, though I made it a bit lighter then the hair from the Sudden Freak's sprite (more desaturated really). Here's a sprite of Billy with his classic overalls, striped shirt (will be a bee-otch to animate) and glasses:

I do plan to animate the human sprite, he has to bust out the morpher from behind his back (where the hell do they actually keep it??) and bring it out in front, the classic morphin animation.
Yeah his Thunder Slinger will most definitely be represented in a special move, be it as a wall-cling move or a full-on Web Sling-based move.

Wow, that Billy sprite looks spot on! Great work, Balthazar.
Should use the Thunder Slinger to cling to the wall for a couple seconds and/or use it to attach onto opponent and he is pulled towards them and does a flying kick.
