Assert line failure sprite bug

what is it? its annoying, ive dubbed it "the herpies of mugen coding" because as soon as it happens you cant get rid of it. or at least i think you cant. it happens out of no where when i delete a certain sprite or a bunch of FX i dont want and then save it....

it happened again today while i was updating my character getting rid of old sprites not being used. its bad because when that happens and i forget to back my stuff up im screwed because i have gone too far ahead adjusting new sprites and old ones then have to do that crap all over again....smdh



so this time after the second flop i saved my butt off. BUT now my updated work is stuck with some sprites left in there just taking up space because i cant delete them :-??


what should i do?

well im glad im pretty good with tinkering around cuz i figured out a possible way to deal with this problem #:-S

-since the sprites were sharing colors i just used FF classic to move those char sprites way at the end. at end is where i have most of my non shared FX.

-I took the shared option off the first unwanted sprite of the bunch i wanted to delete THEN held enter and deleted each sprite from start to end. then hit save. when i started it up and the herpies bug was gone


Im not sure this works for ALL like that but im gonna try one more FX sprite thats in there left and see what happens

IT WORKED!!  :)


so remember:

-Find the sprite thats giving you trouble

-use the FF organizer tool (blue colored up and down icon)

-lock into the group number or numbers of sprites.

-hold shift to highlight them

-then click the Blue arrow going down. theres was one that sends stuff to the very end of the sprite list

-go back to the the sprite itself. it may or may not be sharing colors of a new sprite its in front

-un click shared palette (if it is)

-Then delete it

-hit save and then start it up. the error should be gone entirely

spr-lib C is indeed sprite issues. Normally caused by a badly compiled sff file.

The easiest fix if you're not sure is to export everything with the FF function and look for the borked sprites, they will normally show up messed up in windows thumbnail viewer. Replace them with something functional and import as a new sff file.

Or if you want to mass delete but think you have this issue, work out how the export file functions and delete the sprites that way.
