D.C. Rant on Batwoman And Their Next Move

So Far Yesterday, two members of the Batwoman editorial team quit after their publishers refused to allow Batwoman (who is a lesbian character) to marry her partner.



And now the comic company has provoked even more outrage by hosting a contest in which they readers to draw Harley Quinn, a popular villain, preparing to commit suicide. Naked.

so let me get this straight so far they have a few gay characters in d.c and only batwoman is the most popular one out of them(and no not tas version) so thats dissemination there and now they doing a contest when they make harley quinn committing suicide im sry to say this but  "This Series Is Unexceptable!"

Seems like DC is being a little too narrow-minded with the whole gay marriage of Batwoman...Marvel got that with the marriage of two gay superheroes(whose names i don't remember right now) and it didn't cause any uproar...
On the second matter...are they really planning to make Harley Quinn commit suicide? That's a really stupid idea, taking in mind that she's one of the most well known female characters in the Batman universe...

Yeah because superior spider-man was such a great idea on marvel's part.

Hell, spider-man, (who's Straight) isn't even allowed to get married in the first place.

I'd like to note that I'm not defending DC's Actions here. I'm simply saying that marvel makes some really stupid decisions too. I just never see anyone talk about them because, IDK I guess DC fans are more vocal?

we don't know what the hell is going on in the comic. All we know is that she's trying to commit suicide. If I described the scenes in groundhog day where Bill Murray's character' commits suicide multiple times it could construed as offense as well.

My point with peter's marriage being retconned is that I think DC and Marvel have an aversion to marriage in general because of the so-called "Unrelatability" and "limitations" it puts on the character. I don't think this was an anti-gay marriage thing, as how the hell could you be all-right homosexuality and hate gay marriage, that's stupid, If they had a problem with her being gay why would they bring her back and give her her own book in the new 52?

What comic are you reading? Superior spider-man still sucks. the charater is an bunghole and I hate him. The only interesting thing about him is I get to see how a villain would go about using traditional villain tactics to fight crime, which is kinda funny.

Hmm, this topic could use some sources, to provide context.

As for Batwoman, I would not just reduce this down to DC being prejudiced and stuff. You have to consider, how the marriage would impact the Batwoman title, like the dynamics of the relationships between characters. For Spider-man, when he got married, the "formula" of what made the title Spider-man changed. He was no longer single. That's a big deal. Titles and characters always seem to suffer when married, even if the couple seems perfectly meant to be (Supes and Lois, Cyclops and Jean, Spidey and MJ)

DC is taking into account a lot more than just the sexuality of the couple. And DC has stated that:

Just because the marriage sounds like a good idea on the surface, that doesn't mean it's good for the success of the title in the long run. What if they get married and the material suffers down the road because of that decision? DC is smarter than that. They're not perfect, but they've been in the business a looong time. Don't jump to conclusions!

As for staff leaving because of that? They're just upset that they didn't get their way.

Ok, so first off, many female characters have been drawn nude in comics, albeit, with cleverly placed shadows, hands, hair, etc. to hid private parts. This will be no different. Now if you want to rant about how ALL women are sexualized and drawn provocatively in comics, then you have a good reason. This one with Harley isn't any worse than other drawings.

Most likely, she'll be covered up by the water and you'll probably just see her shoulders and legs. I wouldn't have a fit over that. DC is looking for new artists. It just wasn't the most tactful thing for DC to announce and ask for that from strangers.
