I have released Link, a char from Legend of Zelda that I've been working on for a couple of months. The spritework was originally created by Chaos Dante, whose work is incredible. After some time, he decided to suspend work on him and made his Link work open source. I'm not that great with MUGEN, but I thought I would give it a shot since Legend of Zelda is my favorite game series. I saved all of the sprites he created and drew new sprites based on his style. As I am not that knowledgeable of coding either, I borrowed the char foundation from Young Link, created by EMW and MICROmor, which was also open source. The moves and programming is phenomenal to me. I basically swapped the sprites and fixed the coding to fit with this larger Link. I would say that this char is all of their work; I just happened to put it all together. I give acknowledgment to all of them for this char being created. I hope you guys enjoy it. I also don't know how to make a video, so I have attached some screenshots below. Feedback is much appreciated, but as long as it's something I can understand with my minimal knowledge of coding so I can fix bugs with time allows. Again, thanks to all the creators of these projects, as well as those in the Read Me file.

nice, Zelda is one of my favorite video games so I will give you my honest feedback once i have finished testing him out, thanks for the hard work.

Cool looking and fun to play with...

I got just one problem the first time I tried it... he 'flew' on the stage when he got punched and didn't return :S Don't know how to explain, I'm not an expert.

Even so, just happened once and I repeat: cool looking and fun to play with. Oh, and I liked all the hypers.

Wow! Very nice  release. Glad to see that ChaosDante's Link sprites weren't wasted for nothing. I made a video for you to show him off in training mode:



Aside from wishing he had a more agressive AI, and some blur effects for the sword slashing, he's pretty awesome.

Hey, I was glad to do it, call it my thank you for me downloading your character.  ;)

As for posting the video the way I did, I just got the video link of the Avengers vs X-men preview, then replaced that link of their video with mine,  sense I couldn't find a button to post videos here.

WOW! What an honor to hear from you. I love everything that your Young Link char had to offer to MUGEN. I am honored to receive your help.  :)

I have heard that if Link uses the Triforce Slash when an enemy is in the air, the enemy fall right to the floor instead of being frozen in the air. I am trying to find the problem, but so far nothing I've tested worked. I would be grateful for your involvement.

sorry for the delay, it took me a while to test him out since i was also testing out other releases but overall I like what you did with him, easy to use difficult to master, he is mostly a ground type fighter as he should the only problem i can find depending on how one sees it is that he has a infinite (or is it reset?) when you combo his Lk or Mk Hookshot, his HK hookshot is practically useless, can't do anything with it, also the hookshot does not stun some characters i have for example Shin Gokuki by Phantom.of.the.server, here is a video I just uploaded using the hookshot infinite.

Yeah.... the hookshot attack was a pretty bad move I made when I originally coded the character.  I wanted it to function similarly to Scorpion's spear, but in end it just made more problems than anything, and was actually something I planned on removing, if I ever updated Link again.  An idea I have is to reuse those sprites for a throw, seeing as Link currently doesn't have one.  He could hook them in (at short range) and then throw them in the opposite direction.

Current things to note:

First of all, what's with the alignment of his sprites in the SFF file?  It's pretty weird.  They seem to be more appropriate in the AIR file, which is a good thing, but still odd.  O_o

Some of his CLSN boxes are a bit too big or too small.  This guide could help show you how to do those a bit more effectively (and better than they were in my old works)

Another thing to note about CLSN's are that standing gethits should all use the same CLSN boxes as the character's stance (which is a bit large at the moment) So I recommend toning it down a bit so make these things work.  This is how I would do his idle standing CLSN.

The CLSN box on his C. MP is way too big.

Many of his in air basic attack CLSN's aren't very air combo friendly.

The SSBB sound effects for the Triforce Slash are gone?  Not a problem but just something I noticed.

Standing MP, HP, MK, and HK don't properly cancel into specials anymore.

Despite all the faults, you did a pretty nice job with this.  I'm still flattered to see someone basing something on my own work.  :)

you could also use it for the start of a super, using it as scropion's spear is not a bad idea either, you just have to make it so when the second time it is used it does not stun the opponent.

Thanks so much. I'm in the process of changing the CLSN boxes to be a bit more appropriate. The alignment of the sprites in the beginning are kind of wacky. Well into it, I realized how I can fix that, but I was too lazy to fix the ones I had already added in and fix the corresponding numbers in the animations.

I'm not really sure how I can make the air attacks combo friendly or standing attacks cancel. I guess I should say I don't really know what it means. Is there some kinds of example code you can show me.

I'll also check with the Triforce Slash sounds. I didn't realize I had taken them out.

And the hookshot ideas are awesome, but a bit out of my range of expertise.  :-??

First off, right out of the box (or zip) he'll crash mugen because of a missing palette now?  :-??


Second, why didn't you use the CLSN tutorial I posted? :-w You should never make CLSN's like this.  I'm going to even say that the other one was done better than this.  The old one could have been fine if you just toned it down in size. (I even posted an example for you on my last feedback post)  The new one does exactly what that tutorial I posted told you to avoid, and that is putting too much detail into them.


The hook shot still goes right through nearby opponents.


His blue CLSN will disappear on several normals.


His chaining is still broken on certain normals.  C. LP still can't chain into C. MP.  And certain normals still don't chain into specials like they should.

Taking a second look at his standing LK, it doesn't need to move him forward anymore.  I did that on my old link because of the poor range he had on his knee.  This Link has huge range on his LK.

I meant to address this earlier, but the win pose with the ocarina ends too early.  You can fix that by adding this to its state.

Sorry about the missing palette. I realized that a bit after I posted the char so I fixed it a bit after. I did read the box tutorial and I thought I did a better job with it. I know I didn't want it too detailed, but I still wanted it to cover his body. I'll try to fix the hookshot, I have no idea why some of the blue boxes dissapear, and I'm working on incorporating the codes you made into the char (winpose, LK, Triforce Slash). Sorry again.

Wonderful job here. The sprites are very well animated, the variety of moves and Zelda references is high and the character is very fun. Thanks for sharing your wonderful work!

It's cool man.  We all make mistakes.  I sure made a ton of them on my characters. 

As for the hitboxes, try to never use more than 3 if possible.  In fact, 2 blue ones and 1 red one should be enough for most things.  Also, should never put a space between the legs.  It's pretty pointless and just means more work for you when making CLSN's.  Just as an example, just look at the CLSN's on good ol' Kung Fu Man.  Simple, clean, and to the point.

The reason the blue CLSN's disappear on certain normals is because you used CLSN standard (aka green CLSN's) for them.  For some reason they'll disappear whenever a red CLSN comes up.  I just recommend changing them to blue/

Thanks EM. I'm grateful for all of this help. I'm done with the other edits I wrote about and I'm working on cleaning up the boxes. I'm also doing some reading on how to make Link more combo friendly.  :thumbsup:
