Capcom Announces Embrace the Dark, a Darkstalkers Resurrection Character Design

One of the biggest things that the Darkstalkers series is known for is its creative character designs. Now, Capcom is challenging fans of the series to see if they can come up with designs that match the creativity of the originals with their “Embrace the Dark” character design contest for Darkstalkers Resurrection. At stake is some pretty cool Darkstalkers swag as well as the chance to have your creation drawn by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, the artist who lent his skills to the new artwork for Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition and the upcoming Resurrection bundle.

The prize structure reads as follows:

1st Place: A custom made drawing of your character by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, the artist for Darkstalkers Resurrection, along with one copy of the UDON Darkstalkers Tribute art book and one copy of Pop Culture Shock’s Lord Raptor statue.
2nd-3rd Place: One copy of Pop Culture Shock’s Lord Raptor statue
4th-8th Place: One copy of the Darkstalkers Tribute art book by UDON.

To join, fans can simply hop to this page and fill out the form with the name, monster type, physical description, fighting style, and any additional info for their character. Fans are encouraged to add as many additional details as possible, including their own artwork. Collaborations with other fans are allowed and entries from the unofficial contest held previously by Capcom-Unity moderator Esipiownage are still eligible.

The contest runs up until January 20, 2013 and is open to residents of the United States, Canada, and the European Union only, so get in there as soon as possible and show off your creativity.

Yeah, I thought they'd be all for adding in some of the better characters that were created..or at least say that they'd possibly add characters inspired by the best designs. Something like that, if not, I don't exactly get why hold the contest to begin with.

Prizes seem a bit bland for this, also..

yeah i agree batz, that prize stuff to me dont seem interesting like that. i thought they was gonna give money ( ok now that was farrrrrrr out there in thinking that ) or go and include your name in the future game credits as the characters designer or something( which they should give credit anyway) but def up the ante .

 I would love to see a nice new additions added to the roster and not just  oh 1 or 2  added.

I don't need to draw it? I wonder what will they do with this, perhaps they're just getting ideas. I would prefer a statue of Morrigan rather than Raptor if I were in 2nd. Also, its very unfair that South America isn't included in this.

What monsters DS has already: vampire, succubus, werewolf, frankenstein monster, abominable snowman, merman, cursed armor, mummy, zombie, jiang-shi, dhampir, aztec robot, fiery cosmic being, things that have nothing to do with monsters like catwoman, beewoman and the little red riding hood.

Now, what kind of monsters DS could have?

hmm lets see, a sphinx, a griffon, minotaur, hellhound, a ugly dang demon and or other various ancient monsters of either lore or mythology.

ohh wait there are also The Boogieman ( slime monster probably) Fairies, trolls, goblins...etc etc...

Some monsters I think could appear:

* A poltergeist, complete with possessed objects and a move which messes-up controls;
* At least one greek mythology monster. A minotaur would probably be the most obvious choice;
* Chupacabras?
* A masked psycho murderer;
* Some multi-armed Hindu deity for a grappler;
* A shape-shifting blob monster;

Think about it. as of late a lot of fan based material out there has been used by capcom (MVC3 and SF x MM). These kind of things fuel a new game. and knowing capcom they will take advantage of this. Not only that but the XBL & PSN darkstalkers game is already in effect and the all new DarkStalkers game is already on the table to be done. Thats why i said what i said^^

its an "un official" contest but lets be real man, i would not be surprised if those designs show up in a new game as a new character or DLC. Its my personal prediction
