Project Mega Drive
« on: August 13, 2012, 11:01:37 PM »
Hey guys, my friend, SonicX14 and I have had this game idea on our minds for quite a while. Basically, our idea is a Sega Genesis styled MUGEN game consisting of various Sega characters from the Sega Master System to the Sega Dreamcast along with a couple of modern characters appearing on consoles past that. Our only problem though is none of us are good spriters and are looking for a few people that know how to sprite to possibly help us out. So if anyone is willing to help out in any way, just let us know by posting in this topic.

We want to start a bit small so we don't over work ourselves. Right now we're still in the early stages. I'm currently ripping sounds from various Sega titles and looking for new backgrounds to make. I did Curien's Mansion, Goldman Building, and Armstone Town around 2007 I believe. It's been awhile.

Here's a video of a few Sega backgrounds I've made. I may however work on some new ones.
http://youtu.be/YZMMad1QCS4

Oh and the roster that we're working on will not feature tons of Sonic characters  .V.! Only a few that covers Sega's history.

You need a Sonic for the project? I'd be happy to donate my Sonic WIP to your project

I am speechless on your spriting skills. It's full of optic YES :cool

I actually have voice samples of Sonic from Colors and Generations on my laptop.

That's awesome. I've been looking for rips of those games.

I forgot to mention this a few days ago but the final game's roster will probably be around ten to sixteen characters. The reason why Kori and I picked such a small roster is because we don't want to push the spriters too much and we think it would be a good way to start off the game.

Who all are in the roster? And are there unlockables?

Unfortunately, Kori and I haven't really discussed much about the roster yet. We've been talking about the bosses though. I also suggested the possibility of unlockables back in January when we first came up with the idea.

EDIT: Came up with some possible "unlock" methods that might be used in the game. If you have any method ideas, feel free to post your own. I also thought of an online Sega trivia quiz where you get a password to unlock one of the hidden characters if you get a certain number of questions right.

OFF-SCREEN: Hidden characters can only be selected by highlighting a certain character on the character select and then moving your cursor in a certain pattern which will select the hidden character off-screen.

RANDOM SELECT: Hidden characters can only be selected in a chance of luck by using the Random Select option on the character select.

*Don't know if this one would work with MUGEN's engine but if it can, that would be awesome.*
COMPLETING TASKS: Hidden characters can only be selected by unlocking them first which can be done by fulfilling a certain task. After completing that task, you’ll obtain a password which than can be used to extract that hidden character’s .rar file.

I do like the completing task one. Not sure about the online quiz.

Also I didn't think MUGEN could do passwords.

For bosses, not sure if you saw all of my "SEGA All Stars Knock Out" but I had Eggman being a midboss and Death Adder as the final boss. How's that for bosses?

Well the online quiz would be just for one hidden character, not all of them. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't NĂ©stor also planning on including unlockable characters in one of his projects and that in order to unlock the characters, you would need a password to extract the .rar files? I was thinking for the passwords, maybe a message could up saying, "Congratulations! You have obtained the password to unlock hiddenchar#!" after you get a certain number of wins in Survival mode or after completing Arcade mode? Also, ironically, the bosses you suggested are the ones Kori and I were talking about including a few days ago. We were also talking about Neff from Altered Beast possibly being included too.

I've ripped voices for 9 Sega characters for this game so far. I'm going to see if I can rip some sounds from the Genesis games tommorow.

I have ripped the voices of the following characters
Bruno Delinger ~ Dynamite Deka
Wolf Hongo ~ Dynamite Deka
Akira Yuki ~ Virtua Fighter
Bahn ~  Fighting Vipers
Those characters will cover up the arcade era.
Sonic is on the Genesis list. I plan on ripping sounds from several genesis games.

Ever considered Ristar for a char?

I've been pondering a Ristar WIP though it might be a bit of a chore to convert the Genesis sprites to Capcom-ish style. Wanna see a sample of it?

Sure. I also want to include Vectorman as well. One of the producers for All-Stars Racing Transformed almost got his head chewed off for not including Vectorman.

We have more well-known Sega characters on the Genesis side. David and I were thinking about making a poll.

Still working out a moveset as well. All I have so far is his strech grab, a Blanka-esque roll attack, and something akin to Lady Deathstrike's "spinning arms out" hyper.

Looking nice. Guess I'll rip Bahn's sprites from the VF vs. Tekken game again.

I'm really glad to hear that people are looking forward to our project as it really means a lot to Kori and I.

EDIT: Kori went back to school today so progress on the game will be slower than usual. Also, expect progress to be even slower as I go back to school on September 5th.

I'm back y'all and I have some good news. I have a friend in college that's experienced with MUGEN. We've talked about all types of great over the top ideas for this game. We plan on working on the game when we have the free time. Then I can use my desktop to start working on it pronto.

Anyone have any suggestions by any chance?
