Too bad people won't stop whining about how that show made the 80s Turtles "too cartoony" or "too pathetic"

I will defend the TMNT from the 80's til I'm blue in the face. I used to watch those things on VHS for as long as I can remember. But the original comic TMNT... I shudder at remembering the gore and violence... That weren't no kids comic for sure...

For me, the 80's turtles (ch 11 for those in NYC) is very nostalgic, especially the 5 premier episodes. Sure, it's lighter compared to the comics, but it had action that, as a kid back then, had an impact. The reboot from '03 onwards was pretty good throughout. Sure there were those weak moments in the reboot (ie. Fast Forward), but most of the seasons held my attention, especially the ones that had Bishop battling the Turtles! Turtles Forever was a good closure to things, just hoping that Nick can do justice with this new reboot.

The comics were definitely NOT for kids. I got into them more later in my teens as a bought some of them at my local comic shops (the Mirage ones, not the ones published by Archie comics). It's an adjustment to go from the cartoons to the comics and realize how dark the turtles' history really was off screen...like when Leonardo beheaded the Shredder who came back revived by mystics and worms. Would be interested if a studio or company wanted to make a for-adult turtles cartoons that followed the comics more closely....

I really hated how in the 03 cartoon the made Shredder a kind of Krang creature... really... but i really loved the "suit"

Yes the comics were darker, but I think we may be overdoing it by saying "adult"

I mean look at the gore Wolverine has splashed out?

I remember at 8 years old Logan mercy killing women, and putting his claws through Silver Samurai.

The comics still had Mikey luving pizza. Krang, Bebop, and Rocksteady, Usagi Yujumbo, and a lot of light hearted moments.

There were some issues that were as campy as the Tick. It's that which I think the toon, and movies built off of. That goofyness is rooted in the comics as well. It's just when it came to fighting the Turtles were all business.

None of this 3 stooges, eyepoke, and spit water in the eyes stuff.

Good ole Leather Head, Casey, April were all pretty much staples of the series. The toon just dumbed it down. Waaaaaaayy down

By the way ask for this for X-Mas kids.

This giant Hardcover full collection will blow you away. I get the chills, and a smile everytime I pick it up.

$50 bucks, but it has everything, and it's a big book.

The new series is great BTW

If ya only pick up 1 comic, this one is a nice mix of the comics, and the various series in 1 package.

Yeah, maybe the term "adult" is outta place, but the way censorship is for cartoons nowadays, lotta contents from comics are considered inappropriate for the "younger viewers", thus why we can't get 100% conversions of comics-to-cartoons.

The new series is great BTW

New series, huh. Love to check that out

Well interestlingly after reading the above issue I think I get whats going on with the alien thing

I think Bay is just such an idiot he talked about it out of context.

I had heard Kevin Eastman say that the new Comic series, following Nik series, and Movie would all be using a re-imagined turtles.

Okay that is true in the new comic series as Eastman said they really couldnt do the Daredevil origin anymore. Marvel was cool back in the day, but wouldnt be very happy about if we kept pushing that.

So in the reboot Splinter and the Turtles are animals experimented on in Baxter Stockmans lab, and injected with Mutagen.

Foot clan attacks, and Splinter takes the turtless with him who begin to morph into their man like forms.

When the Morphing is complete all the turtles and Splinter have developed into their personalities immediately, no years pass. They all know each other an their names.

Splinter reveals that theyve been re-incarnated in this world, and have led past lives the remember little of, and the mutation awoke their personalities, and some memories.

Meaning the previous versions of the turtles is their true origin, but this is how they get into the present universe.

This issue we discover that Krang is supplying Stockman with the "ALIEN" Mutagen Stockman is developing to mutate earth animals.

Ironically they just seem to majically test it on animals that just happen to be animals re-incarnated from their previous lives in the TMNT Universes.

So yeah it's a bit different, but it's not a total re-boot because the Turtles spirits are the true turtles. Plus after the originis out of the way things are pretty much the same as the old comic, just a lil more light hearted.

Really after that it's the same old turtles we all know.

So I think this was just a stupid statement that Bay made making a minor point into something bigger than it really was.

/:O no years of training? Character development? Where does the "ninja" aspect come from? Well, in terms of story progression that's good, but sounds like a lack of connection between key characters like Shredder and Splinter. Alien mutagen does sound believable, tho.

Well they already know all of that. Why would you need to train for years, or develope the same personality characteristics if theyve already been through all that?

Theyre are ninja's because they trained to be ninjas over the course of different lives.

all ill say is for all that if he wanted to change the TMNT to Aliens from outer space he might as well stabbed at Battle toads. they are from outer space and not mutants :-??

I dont like the route hes going with the TMNT but knowing me as a big action movie buff ill give some actual footage a chance. i liked the transformers movies. they grew on me once i put my childhood TF fan boy feelings to the side. i never did like the robot designs of the transformers in his movie though. thats just me^^ Devastator looked stupid as hell man...and thats all ill say on that so youd get my drift

lol @ "script problems" The problem was the script itself. The Turtles are dear to my heart and I grew up with them, so I just can't accept all this change coming to them. I prefer to keep them down to earth and retain the same origin as they always have had. I don't see the need for this as they were not broken, so don't fix them. Bay is just being Bay and I'm not a fan of his films or his way of doing things.

Bay just looks for any reason to add more "explosions". Seriously, the guy should have just done a Power Ranger film...would have fit his style better and been a better candidate for this film rather than butchering my beloved Turtle brothers.

Ok, the fans win... Ninja Turtles are Shut Down due to "script problems"

Thank goodness, maybe we can get a decent movie now.  The only good movie from back in the day was the first so why can't Hollywood do something similar to that style?  If Michael Bay wants Aliens so bad how using Krang and Dimension X in the storyline, and have the foot soldiers be robots like in the cartoon so Bay can get some real fights and some "Explosions".

I wouldn't mind a return of Krang and the whole Dimension X thing, toss in Bebop and Rocksteady too. But even if this was done, I'd still prefer it be done right. I have gotten my entertainment value out of the Turtles over the years so I'm happy with what I got out of them.
