New Video Shows Mass Effect 3 Day-One DLC Already On Disc
« on: March 11, 2012, 08:26:20 PM »
What the hell is going on with all this underhanded DLC crap locked on discs now? That and the fact we cant even rent or buy certain games used because you would need to buy that extra pass code just to unlock online play or modes in the game thats part of the story is becoming more and more of a drag :-w. when i say that im using examples of the games like RAGE, MK9 & battlefield 3 just to name a few...oh yeah and saints row the 3rd and Twisted metal for PS3 8=|. Im on the fence about why companies do this but they can find another way better to market DLCs the right and honest way. eh whatever just read this here below and check out the comments..

http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2012/03/11/new-video-shows-mass-effect-3-day-one-dlc-already-on-disc/2/

I never played any of the mass effects games yet but if i did and i was into them id be annoyed also. But then again a game
like that id gamefly anyway if i had gamefly again.

Im feeling like i cant feel good buying a brand new game or maybe even renting a game now these days. i guess if i have kids they will enjoy the experience more than me. Videogames are getting a bit much and too freakin expensive for me now

Makes me angry. Its just like with the Nemesis thing in Op Raccoon City. Instead of restricting content AWAY from players, why not give them additional content. Like release the game, and then when everybody says they want 'this' make/release.

if Microsoft wants to pay a ton of money so only xbox users get nemesis why should Capcom turn them down they are a business just cause PS3 users get mad about it doesn't mean it's wrong when Microsoft is gonna give them more money than the people who wanted to play nemesis on PS3.

But why should it be locked away if it's already there. Microsoft is just taking the blow for the consumer since they get money from the consumer on a daily basis which probably out number what ever they paid to keep the content unlocked.
If I payed for a disc shouldn't what ever is on the disc be mine? Why do I have to give more money to a company just for an unlock code. I'd understand if it were just a trial or demo, but its not. The game is complete.
Pretty soon I'd bet your gonna have to pay to complete the story in games just because you need a DLC gun or something which is the only way to get through that one part of the game. Same thing seems to be up with the gems in SFxT. You want to have an advantage, you have to buy better gems.

If they want to do this crap, fine. they need to balance the price out first. Lowering the price of the game to a decent range to where the DLC would match the rest of the price to a $60 new game would fit.

even though im not a fan of stuff on the disc already thats not my main problem with dlc, that is only the consequence of DLC being developed at the same time as the game!, now THATS the real problem. DLC is supposed to add stuff to further support a popular game like expansions back in the day, that i dont mind.

I think its terrible how some games are developed, its like "ok the game is finished, now what are we going to remove/lock?"

Now the second issue with DLC is how its importance to a game experience is escalating more and more to the point games are now incomplete unless you pay more.

A couple of years ago there was a huge discussion on how games were overpriced and killing the industry, etc., hell with dlc games go from 80-100 dls now and thats not to get a game with extras, thats just to get the full game.

Sadly my favorite franchises and companies are leading the charge...

So do you complain about your satellite or cable box cause the channels are all their but you can't use them all without paying more? You are buying the game for what they promised you would get just because there is more stuff there doesn't mean it should be free it cost money to make a game, no one is forcing you to buy the dlc you thought the game was worth $60 before someone hacked the game and found the extra stuff or the dlc was announced, at the end of the day these are companies trying to make money if they want to lock stuff away they can it's not against the law. It sucks for us as consumers that they can do this and it not be against the law but video games aren't a necessity they are a luxury we can live with out if video game companies wanna rip us off we can just not buy their games and look for other hobbies to do.

Also there is no DLC out at this time that you must buy(online passes are a different story) to be able to play or complete the game no matter how much you may think the DLC gems in SFxT give you a advantage they don't i have them i use them and i still lose like i do in any other game.

The thing that is annoying is that unlike TV we own the game. We spent $60 for the game. So we own the DLC that is on the disc already. We shouldn't have to pay to 'unlock' what is already payed for.

and thats whats funny to me about some folks. Ok you pre order a game that costs you 70 bucks. then you are told 12 characters or so items are locked on that disc you technically bought already and that you have to pay for all over again even though you already have it but locked on disc. Mind you these items could be from 5 to 10 bucks a pop. That hurts man. Thats more than what you paid for the game really. but yet folks really think thats ok?? ive ran through and have a ton of games still and from what i remember a expansion pack was something that you never had in the first place. it was never on the first initial disc or cartidge release. it was all either memory download or an extra CD that completed the other CD or whatever you had. I think the first game i remember supporting that was an old Zelda game for N64 i think it was. that and a F zero game (i think). It was two items you had.

I cant get with that. With fighting games its no excuse. we have all played big fighting games like MVC2 and Tekken where we just unlocked tons and tons of characters on one disc. Between 30 & 50 chars. sometimes more than that like TOBAL NO.2 which was over 200 characters! Remember that PSX game? To me that was way more with than a neo game which of course ran your pockets 250 to 400 bucks a cartridge.

So now with this DLC madness i think they really running game heavy on folks because they know there are people out there thats going to buy it anyway even if it was Street fighter 5 and they already know Ryu & ken are locked on the disc and they bought it for 65 bucks but they have to spend another 10 bucks each for ryu & ken a month later to unlock them with a key code. Thats nonsense man lol smh

again the cody & guy appearance in the early cinematic sf x t trailer told a sh*tty lie. Mind you this is way before the announcement came that they were going to "only be on the Vita". From that video alone i just knew Hugo, King, Poison, Cody & Guy were all going to be in the game when they initially release it on consoles. Bryan fury and the others werent in any cinematic Captivate videos. You just saw word of em much much later on sites in a list they are there at first just for Vita before the games release. feel where im coming from? Dlc's are all bad news for money now it seems. Good for the Company. Bad for us gamers more so. I can deal with a DLC if it was never on the disc to begin with. Thats a real DLC expansion to me^^

Cody's exact words was looked like we missed the fun that was a hint towards them being dlc and when that trailer came out Ono said not everyone in the trailer would be in the game you were uninformed and thought because they appeared in the trailer they would be in the game usable day 1.

Quote
Ono said that Haggar, Cody, Guy and Hugo being in the trailer didn't mean they'll be in the game, but where there's Poison there's usually Hugo.

Interesting. Didnt see that kite^^ thanks for putting that out there. good catch. you did a good job pointing that out there.

Too bad though capcom still pissed folks off anyway when the cat got out the bag what was locked on the disc though lol. Well Hopefully whenever Namco comes out with their version they dont make that same decision with their characters.

 >:-(-|

Now this all got me wondering if the Ryu Content is already on my Asuras Wrath disc and its just locked :-w

I can say it in 2 words: ULTRA LAZINESS. And it's nothing else.
Developers are getting too lazy, as lazy as they never wasn't. Instead of making game and having some plans for future possible add-ons they are making game, then cutting part of it, selling game first time without this part, second time - removed part as DLC, third time - full game + some fixes. (or similar scheme)
---
Sad part here is that the games could be very and very good, yet those schemes are giving birth to anger not only to developers, but games themselves. I'm strongly agree with Maximilian on that point, when he talks about SxT. Let me use jewelry analogy:
1) they found great raw diamond - idea of crossover, some most basic gameplay ideas and also means necessary to start developing(contract with Namco for using characters mostly); (at that stage everything was perfect)
2) making brilliant out of diamond - they developed full gameplay with all those systems and mechanics, made models, stages, recorded voices, etc. ; (maybe not everything went perfect in this stage, like pandora time, but flaws wasn't major)
3) final stage - putting brilliant into the ring. It's finishing touches and presentation of product - instead of putting our brilliant into cool platinum ring and let everyone, who bought the ring wear it they put ring in cube of molten brass. Not even all of the brilliant is visible now, not to say it couldn't be worn on finger. And now they are promising that later, after half year, they'll remove brass for us, but for more cash of course. (paid gems+blocked chars, that stage caused hate, lots of it)
And what's even more sad - buying that encased in brass platinum ring is encouraging them to do that again and again.
(yeah, I couldn't hold myself from writing an essay again >_>)

I think there should be a law against on disc DLC. Developers are getting away with way too much these days because of it and are using it as a cash cow overhaul, I don't mind it when they're using DLC as legit expansion packs like Bethesda does with their games. BioWare announced new endings for ME3  because of the fanrage against them... and its legit fanrage. The 3 endings were totally slapped together.
