Among others Megaupload is one of those which deletes pirate content right after receiving note to do that and/or on sight. What's the deal? They let upload anything and they deleting it when they told. How else should it work? o.O#
Just imagine how many people will work in scheme send-approve-available and how long would you wait needed file? If it would be automated process - then tons of mistakes.
By that logic all file-sharing services should be closed as potential piracy spreaders. That reminds me of stupid tax in Russia where 1% of price from everything that could play in some way media content - from cell phones to monitors and MP3 players, in public it's caled "tax for blank CDs". Yeah, that's right, you may use or don't use illegal content, that's doesn't matter, you pay for having potential to do so. Some companies like Samsung boycotting it like illegal(if they didn't - imagine their loses). Where goes money? It's different question, but not for supporting authors which needed that of course, they ashamed to even ask for cents, that should be given to them. (Same, but bit less violate laws are in other countries, check wikipedia article Private copying levy)
But taxes is taxes and closing file-share services is closing file-share services. If they are closed one by one(closing one leads to closing others and obviously makes it easier, western judicial system is precedent type - if someone sued for eating ice cream it makes precedent all other cases involving eating ice cream would be judged from position of previous experience and that could also lead to making law, hell, there is law for not having ice cream in your back pocket in some USA states!). So yeah, back on track - closing file-sharing systems will lead to moving content on own servers which will not only overload them because of lot people accesses, but also endanger sites themselves. And there's two ways - removing all that content from sites(for some it's obvious death) or wait and hope to survive more time until closed.
Sorry for long text :P
---
Hm, thinking of that... IM's have a lot of pirate potential. Not only sending files, but showing pirate content with your webcam or playing background song, so someone who hadn't bought it will hear... Avatars... Hm... Hell, with that logic playing song loud with your phone or mp3 player is act of piracy! o.O# Well, you see where it goes... and it's clinical.

Maybe this is what the Mayans meant when they said 2012?

Now I'm not trying to cause a stir; I'm just saying that maybe our world, the physical world, isn't going to end, but the otherworld we know as...the internet?

I guess worlds from Minority Report and Hardwired movies will come sooner then I expected... As long as humanity won't take different course with social orientation...
But anyways, they could attack any file-sharing service any time, I don't know why megaupload, but why now is pretty obvious - they opened 2nd(or 3rd if you count PIPA separate from SOPA) flank. It serves two purposes - it's own(making precedent and starting line of file-sharing services cases) and distracting, splitting attention. Now we have not only SOPA, but PIPA and this(not to mention while discussing this everyone already forgot about Mid-East actions, because it's kinda hotter topics). More stuff needs your attention - less time you have for each, at some point you will lose your ability to follow all at once and drop some.

Just because it's postponed doesn't mean it's dead. Piracy is still a problem, but one thing for sure, we've stopped these people from controlling the internet, and that is definitely worth celebrating. As for our economy and jobs, I hope for the better. These bills were not only a selfish way to make more money, but also a cruel way as well. Is this how they repay for giving us these file-sharing programs?

Today I finally watched(well, not actually watched, more listened 'coz of my eyes, which still in need of recovery, but doesn't matter) Inside Job (documentary film about crisis) and I really want to go kill 'em all...
I still hoping BRIC would take counter-act on that ACTA. I don't know how we would all live if that won't be stopped.

Thinking we need a new smiley similar to the "This is Sparta" but with Captain America holding a sign saying "This is America"

....Anyway, really regret voting on Obama, I didn't see this coming. The first thing I thought when I saw all this copywrite infringing site babble was "How is this going to effect MUGEN" because it seems to me MUGEN would be a big target for this claptrap. I can only see this thing turning into a giant witch hunt on worst case scenario.

Might want to look at this vid which explains my worries.

Ugh, I guess nobody want to share fate of megaupload - FileSonic have this message on main page and gives it instead of any file you trying to download:
Quote
All sharing functionality on FileSonic is now disabled. Our service can only be used to upload and retrive files that you have uploaded personally.

So true. I remember, If it was true, that Capcom, SNK, and other companies and I think one developer was concerned with their sprites being ripped and being used in MUGEN. Although it was settled that MUGEN is fan-art, that's also a big issue to me; Reubenkee's site could be closed down, and so would MFG, IMT, and MI.

Let's also not forget deviantArt. A LOT of fan-art, and there are pixel art stuff there too.

The problem with all these wacko bills or acts trying to get passed is they intrude on so many business fronts that they stunt their money as well.  EVERYONE uses the internet for transactions  wether social or business. . this would affect colleges as well with their institution of passing on information for research for grades. if you have a research paper to do and have to email your school work in to your teacher you could be fined by the gov for business because of certain content but its required for the research to get the grade. This act bill whatever intrudes on far too many technical and freedom fronts that the whole existance of having a computer or a any technology ably to transfer information useless and not worth buying. so in turn that hurts companies that develop the hardware. Money! that affects the companies the use the technology for school media needed for educational purposes...Money! hell that means not even the government can use cpu's to transfer information...Money! So the question really is , if all these people dont use informational devices for transfering information no matter what the purpose....who gets paid?

To answer Lando, entertainment companies, who are in turn lobbyists. They have "lost business" from even genuine internet activity (for example, people will look up music on Youtube instead of watching MTV). They don't like the fact that a new site can pop up and be a successful (international) business, that could not come close without the Internet. That creates competition for them, which they of course want less of. In addition to the piracy they imagine (emphasizing 'imagine') the bills would stop, music/movie/entertainment industries would love these bills.

(PS, this is not English section! I didn't realize, sorry @^@ )
