What i thought about THE THING (the prequel)
« on: October 14, 2011, 08:03:06 PM »
listen im oldschool so to speak. In my 30s and i grew up in the 80s era of horror. John Carpenters The Thing still is one of my TOP 5 best horror flicks of all time and i really give the Dawn of the dead 2004 crew my hats off for doing this prequel right. It got straight to the point and it was just a lot of mayhem, confusion, intense moments, clear & gross creature visuals and THANK GOD RATED R. They didnt hold no punches. It was just enough light so you can see it and JUST enough darkness to keep the vibe creepy. They put enough CGI in it for the right big n nasty transformation moments and they still used animatronics just for the right upclose moments like back in the day. beautiful!

If you dont like Bloody Disqusting and creepy then this flick aint for you. I respect this flick for what it is because ive seen the FIRST movie dozens of times (still watch it) and i already knew what to look for in the movie of what they nailed right. Folks ignorant and oblivious to the first one still think this is a remake when its not. Its the events that took place at that decimated norwegian Laboratory camp before the Americans got hold of the nasty situation. Everything that you will see in this flick are the answers to the puzzle of hints that were in the first flick. EVERY DETAIL. EVERY EASTER EGG.

Pardon the essay but i am so happy i enjoyed the movie from start to end and it turned out how i hoped to be #:-S. I wont argue with anyone here who knows nothing about the first or has something weak in debate to say bad about the movie. Its one the best horror movies ive seen in some years now. For a ballsy prequel it goes up there on top. As for a remake of the original I dont support that. They have the high potential do it if its the same team but its best they leave that alone. Or if its like that then do a sequel of what happened After the american team was wiped out leaving. But honestly i rather not have them do that either. just leave how it is^^

The first movie

When i first so the trailer... i was like (NOOOOOOOO)!!!!!!!! Then i found out that it was a prequel not a sequel or a remake, which made me interested because John Carpenters (1982) The Thing (Classic) is and will always be my #1 film. Acouple of people i work with saw it yesterday & had nothing but good things (no pun intended) to say about it.
The thing that excites me most about this prequel is that it tells the story we only saw glimpses of in the '82 film when R.J. MacCready & Doc brought back footage of the Norwegian camps discovery of a spaceship... not to mention the 2 headed corpse. I heard, The Dawn Of The Dead (2004) crew really nailed it... but it shoudn't have been a surprise to me
seeing as though they remade DOTD '04 so great (it surpassed the original... imo). They said that every detail from Carpenters movie gets acknowledged & it leads right into his film. Man, i can't wait to see it this week!  :O*D

EXACTLY....pretty much go to see the movie with that same mind set you have now...they nailed everything. Thats why i am so satisfied with with the movie. it felt great leaving the theater. me and my friend left like wow.. :| they really did it right! i had doubts and only hopes it was done right. The actors were decent but nothing top notch like the cast john carpenter put together.

But the special FX?? man smh they really went in on it. Its a true treat for us fans who remember the 1982 movie clearly, still watch it and more so remember what when macCreedy and Doc saw glimpses of at that camp. The mutalated man in the chair. The axe in the door. The two headed monster they brought back etc etc...they left nothing out man. youll enjoy it!

that 2004 dawn of the dead team are the sh*t in my book for new gen horror! :)

lol yeah they were definitely my favs and sorta comic reliefs (Pot head palmer more so). Childs tied down to that chair after the mayhem of the blood test gone wrong ended: "GET ME OUTTA HERE!! CUT ME LOOSE DAMN IT!"

lol naaw..to be honest Lando at our age now and what movies we grew up on NOTHING is going to be that scarey but a good shock factor or 1 or two jumpy scenes in the movie is good enough at this stage in the game with us. The movie made me jump twice on some funny sh*t because i wasnt expecting certain scenes to happen. one more so i forgot i saw in the trailer haha. But the movie theater was so loud and crisp on the sound effects and music score it did its job totally lol

so on that note youll enjoy the visuals and the intensity that was scripted into the film. it was just right for what it was. Fun for me because i was paying attention to every little easter egg i saw as just a "Glimpse" in the old 1982 one i saw as a kid when they ivestigated that burned down research camp seeing the "aftermath" of the mayhem... ;)
