Spiderman: Friend or Foe?
« on: September 25, 2007, 09:56:14 PM »
Ok so while I was online on my 360 I saw a demo of the game up for dl. Of course I had to dl it.
Alright for starters. Here's what happens from what I've played.

It's based off the Spiderman movie universe and a "what-if" nobody died in any of the movies.

Basically what happens in the intro, Green Goblin teams up with Doctor Octopus to kill Spiderman, shortly after Venom comes in and fights him, followed by Sandman, and New Goblin. Shortly after, all these robots and symbiotes pop up in and Spiderman sarcastically of course asks if the symbiotes are a friend of Venom's, Venom responds by breathing on Spiderman
<_<|...| (which is actually one of his special attacks).
First off the game's character design's are based off the movie. They're not chibi, they are just really really cartoonish. Venom doesn't even resemble how he was in the 3rd movie though (thank god), Venom looks more like the old school big brute we all know of. What happens in the game is all these villains have mind control devices on them and as Spiderman, you have to beat the hell out of them, and when you defeat them, they can join you to fight the people that put the mind control devices on the villains. In the game, you can only have two people on screen. This game is a TMNT style Beat em up. Although it doesn't really work for this game. Aside from that I was highly unimpressed with the graphics, since it was on the 360, the graphics came close to looking like it's for ps1. The sub bosses are tougher then the actual bosses. I remember I was fighting I guess an elite robot and it beat me within an inch of my health, however when I went to fight Doctor Octopus in the boss match, he barely even scatached me because when your fighting him all you have to do is jump and grab debri with your webs and throw it at these 2 boxes (one of the 2 not both, which makes it even easier), You only have to hit it like 3 or 4 times, while the sheilds up you have to dodge lazers. Which is easy since most of the time your jumping around anyways. While one of the machines is destroyed, Dock Ock will get pissed and use all of his tentacles and hands to fix it (which makes him a human punching bag), pretty much repeat and you'll beat doc ock. After playing the demo. All I can say is this game is horribly made of fail.
I mean you can choose from over 5 people to play as and co-op can only go up to 2.  <_<|...| Really, Activision shouldn't do beat em ups, I prefer their GTA Spiderman games waaaaay more than this crap.

Looks. Yes. It literally does look a lot like Stuntmaster (graphicwise, because Stuntmaster came out for ps1).

What a shame...

I was hoping that this game was going to be good...

if it was based on the comics it would be....but its the movie!

and its funny cause venom looked sooo damn pathetic in the movie that in the game he doesnt even look like he did in the movie....   in the game he was actually buff,  hes dark blue , he actually has a big mouth and a long tounge, and u can clearly see his venom symbol on his chest!  lmao

its funny cause i bet they admit that they f**ked him up so they completely changed how he looked in the game

Know more from the TV series or the movies than the comics so... I don't know about it.
(No good comic stores where I live)

I just wanted to know the feeling of using my favorite villian on a game instead of fighting him.

Those 3 spidey titles are MUCH better than "friend or foe"...in this case,...consider this offering a foe!  :D

nah, not quite..also the game was called "spider-man 2: enter electro" on the PS1 and that game was awesome! the games have been pretty good up until this point..so you've missed out some real good spidey action!

This is why I don't play spider-man games anymore

eh you should, a good one might come along..you don't have to play EVERY spider-man game that comes out..just wait for a good one..same with any other series

I don't care about the actors who gave their voices to the characters...
I want to know if at least this game got a lot different quotes and phrases from the characters (Like Marvel Ultimate Alliance) to rip it.

I actually like the ps1 spiderman games. Although the diffuculty on S2: Electro was rather ridiculous with the Sandman boss fight and the final Electro fight. In terms my favorite Spiderman games are listed like this.

1. Tie between Spiderman  movie 3 (360) and Ultimate Spiderman (ps2)
2. Spiderman movie 2 (ps2)
3. Spiderman Movie (xbox)
4. Spiderman (ps1)
5. Maximum Carnage
6. Seperation Anxiety

The reason why my favorites list is like this is because, I go by fun factor, more than how true it is to the source material.

Spiderman 3 was one of my top favorites because you were able to play as Spidey, Symbiote Spidey, and New Goblin, while running around a actual 3d simulation of Manhattan, and the Spiderman missions really like what he randomly does in the comics. I'm also glad that Kingpin was based off the comic series and not from the Daredevil movie. I liked the graphics in SM3 except for the main character models (which looked weird and bugged eyed), although in game while doing missions, things look better. Unlike the previous 2 Spidey sandbox games, this game allowed you to travel in the subways and sewers.

I liked Ultimate Spiderman because it was the second in the series that had the sandbox engine, the games graphics reminded me of the mtv animated series, although when I was fighting the Green Goblin, it felt like I was fighting the Hulk, and I laughed when Rhino turned out to be a gigantic mech. Although the real star of the game was Venom, you could play as him, eat people, throw cars, get into a fight with SHIELD, and such. It was really the first 3d-cel shaded game that gave you the option between playing as Venom and Spidey, even though it was the ultimate series.

The first movie game I liked because I already liked the ps1 originals. The game ripped off from those games with the engine, but you could unlock to play as Green Goblin, which was another first, the abilty to play the green guy in 3d. Although I like playing as Green Goblin in SM1 than New Goblin in SM3 because you could do so much more. First off, you had a ton of different types of weapons, multiple types of Pumpkin bombs, those spikes on his glider, plus you can go off glider, and run at the speed of light and such.

The ps1 original was just fun because there was so much to do in the game, as well as unlock a number of costumes. Plus there was a lot of hidden easter eggs. Although in that game you can only play as Spiderman

Maximum Carnage was fun, but difficult. Although there wasn't much into gameplay. It was a side scroller, regardless, it did good at that. You went from left to right, but beating up bad guy after bad guy after bad guy gets repetitive. There wasn't much of any exploration elements as Spiderman normally would. The game let you play as Spiderman and Venom. Although it was pretty fun to watch the story as the game progresses. The gameplay though is just repetitive. It's good, but still repetitive.

Then Seperation Anxiety basically had a similar engine to Maximum Carnage where you run around beating up bad guys, but the graphics weren't as pretty, although it was one of it's best back in the day. Although one thing is, I can't remember Spiderman being in the Seperation Anxiety comic books. I just remember Eddie being cornered by the symbiotes, while the Venom suite goes around trying to find Eddie.
