Did I do the right thing? (Xbox 360)
« on: January 31, 2011, 01:33:20 AM »
So my 360 has been sitting in my closet for over 3 years. Dead (or so I thought?) of an E 73 error, not RROD. So today I thought i would search for ways to try and fix it, i had some spare time today. After coming across a tutorial that stated i should stick two tooth picks in the Xbox to stop the fans and over heat it, once it happens unplug everything and reboot it.

Now after reading that I thought, "This is dumb as f**k!" But i looked over at my Xbox and thought, "Eh, what the hell, its just gunna sit there anyways." About thirty seconds into holding these toothpicks, I just dismissed the idea as stupid and stopped, shut off my xbox. Then, I decided to turn it on, and it worked. My facial expression went from "¬_¬" to "o_____o".

Now I ask you, did I do the right thing?

I ask because I was thinking about getting a new 360, but doing so would put a major dent on the cash I need for other expenses (bills, upcoming b-days, valentines day, etc). Also, cause I'm worried about further messing it up.

All in all, I'm happy I have an Xbox again.

True, but getting it fixed like this way was WAY too easy. I honestly keep thinking that it may mess up again.

Well, I hope this lasts me a while, cause I need to get my XBL again. Question: Does anyone know of a good pad controller for the Xbox? Mainly for use with fighting Games?

Well, think of it this way:
It's in a better shape then it was before, and that's all that really matters. Rather reap the time out of it while you can then just letting it sit there untouched.

Well, the SF4 fightpads are good if you're avoiding a controller with a crappy d-pad *see also: darn near every 360 controller out there*, but if you are willing to shell out a few extra dollars....
Get an Arcade Stick.

^^Thanks for the advise, a stick has been on my mind for a while and I'll just have to get one. Would have to take some time to get used to it, but I'm sure it'll be worth it. I've tried the SF4 pads, and while the D-Pad is a step up, its not the best. It feels a little weird to me, but I could deal with it.

As for the Xbox, it went back to its error state today, major bummer for me. I'm gunna try to do the X-Clamp fix this weekend. Should it work, I'll be happy, if not, eh. At least I could say that I tried.

I dont really... see.. what your concern is.. if it's working... now... LOLZ!

Just keep at it. If it gives you RROD or w/e you had before again do w/e you did again (Make sure to write down what exactly you did and bookmark/print the page you got that awesome info. from). Do w/e you think will work to fix it again, though.. X-Clamp yea.. maybe try not to play for more than 3 hours per day for starters... Make sure the fans are working and such. Although if you want to save up for a new one.. save up for the new 360 Slim. I haven't read anything about RROD or any unusual errors from that version. In fact before I got my 360 elite back in November 2009... that's when they said they basically fixed the RROD error for sure. I havent seen it yet on mine and I never hope to.
