Real Life Super Heroes
« on: September 17, 2010, 05:39:03 AM »
I found out about this recently, and thought it was awesome.

Real life superheroes. From what I've read about them, they don't do a lot of actual crime fighting(Except Shadow Hare), but they're definitely good guys. They help with fundraisers, volunteer work and things like that a lot.

Basically, they do a ton of good things for their community and they do it dressed as superheroes, and definitely something I thought was cool was the care most of them take in their costumes.. One in particular, Citizen Prime, has a $4000 costume, and he had it custom made by a guy who makes jousting armor, so it's definitely sturdy.

Even though most of them don't do a lot of crime fighting, they're definitely ready for it and willing to do it if they come across it. A lot of 'em even keep bulletproof vests as a part of their costume just in case.

A whole group of real life superheroes. From what I've read, there's definitely more than just these guys. Dozens, maybe even hundreds or more.

There are a lot of websites about 'em, but I think the most important one is probably http://www.reallifesuperheroes.com and http://www.reallifesuperheroes.org

They're basically good samaritans on crack.
They make their local newspapers pretty often it seems, and there have been plenty of news reports about 'em. They do a whole ton of good things, and the costume helps make their impressions a hell of a lot more memorable.

They have a youtube channel, too.
http://www.youtube.com/RLSHProject

At first, I thought these were just crazy people acting crazy.. But these guys are definitely sane, and defnitiely genuine.

I kinda have the urge to dress up as a Super Villain and go fighting them just to see what the news would say about it the next day, lol

What do you guys think about the Real Life Super Heroes?

Super heroes are great and all in comics/movies but when it comes to real life it is just weird. Wonder how ready they truly are for taking on real crime though. Would be kinda sad if one of them got killed on their first try at actual crime fighting, which is a high chance it would happen. Still though, I'd love to see one genius with some good tech go up against the lot of 'em. No matter how it goes down, that'd be something amazing to see.

We stopped checking for monsters under our bed when we realized they were inside of us.

When it comes down to real life, it is a little weird.. But it's definitely easier for these guys to be a role model than a comic/movie superhero for kids. On their youtube channel, there's a video about DC's Guardian. One of the stories he tells is about a kid in the hospital he went to see and it is down right heart-warming. It definitely does put a smile on my face to know good guys like this actually exist in reality.

And yeah, to see real life super heroes battle it out with a real life super villain.. That'd definitely be incredible

The ones who would do actual crime fighting, probably dont leave a presence of themselfs on the internet. If i were a RLSH, i would keep it secret, build myself into some sort of Urben Legend.

I really figured DT or Zarro as the Batman type, I always thought you'd be more like Superman, no mask but for someone reason no one can place the face.

In my neighborhood there are drug deals, and the police do a pretty good job of catching the dealers, but a lot of them go down near where kids play and all that in the evening.

I've actually considered wearing my trench coat, capello, and putting white stocking over my face and doing something about it. (hint: bang bang), but I don't own any weapons and don't really desire to.

I saw something like this on G4tv a year or two ago. Man I thought it was a little weird and funny that people go out and dress like that. They can only put the criminals under civilian aresst with plastic handcuffs until the police arrive. All they have is if I remember correctly is hand-to-hand combat, handcuffs and pepper spray, sometimes food for the homeless, and their wits. I'm surprised the news doesn't cover any of this. I think also that they're located in major city's all over the U.S. One is in Los Angelse and another I think in New York.

Well, I haven't heard of any of them equipped with particularly lethal weapons, but they do have a pretty wide variety. Tazers, batons, slingshots, pepper spray, things like that mostly.. And yeah, they're from pretty much everywhere. I know where a few are, but not too many. Knight Vigil is in Tampa Bay, Florida, Nyx works in New Jersey and New York, Life is in New York, and Motor-Mouth is somewhere in Oregon. Definitely all over the place.

I'm pretty surprised they don't make the news more often than they do too. It's usually just their local news, though. Dark Guardian and Citizen Prime were on G4, maybe they're the ones you saw?
There's a pretty big list of news reports on the wikipedia page about them here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_life_superheroes

Oddly enough, a lot of them started out aiming to do things like that. Not exactly the "bang bang" part, but actually trying to stop crime. Most of 'em do patrols, which is where they deliberately go out looking for anything they can help with. Hell, they even have a whole network they work with so they can travel around and team up with eachother on patrols and meet other Real Life Super Heroes. It's actually really cool, it's sort of like a Justice League network thing, lol

Truth be told, if I didnt have osteoperosis, i would have done this, I would have found a way to be a superhero. I probably would have done something stupid by now and gotten myself killed though lol.

Hey, it was my pleasure. I always have enjoyed talking about the cool things I stumble across.

But, I'm hoping this thread isn't quite over yet. I still wanna talk about Super Heroes and perhaps drift off into discussion of Super Villains and their possible impact on the public as well as both the Super Heroes and the Police and what not.  :w00t:

I see the relationship between the SuperHeros and the police is like a cop and a bounty hunter. But bounty hunters go and look for individuals they are assigned to catch not looking for random criminals. plus super heros don't get paid. Anyway I don't really see super villians appearing anytime soon unless the heros piss someone off and make an arch enemy. They probabily already have "I hate you" fan club some where :D
I think it would be cool to see a villian and hero duke it out. Certainly bring in tourism and more $$$$ to a City in need.
