There is no good way to quit. The only way ive seen is to play so much the you eventually tire of it.

Then after some time has passed, you'll play but not nearly as much as before.

Make him or her go outside.

Alternate activities include.
Go watch a movie.
Skateboard.
Ransack a golf course.
Go to a friends house, preferably one with cable.
Eat food.
Play monopoly or a similar board game.
Or just have him spend time with the family.

Some of these work, some probably aren't as effective. If your friend's problem still persists. Just tell him to take a break and take him or her to go do something else.

Of course this will be temporary, as Glux said. You can never truly stop.

I'm unfortunately having the same problem with my bro and MMORPGs... even when friends are over I go in his room.. and yep.. he's on the thing...

The only thing I ever tried was making his computer go slower while he was out by replacing his RAM cards with very cheap ones... He still played! I was like "wtf".... lol...

If your parents noticing him playing too much too.. tell them you're concerned.

MMO's are a whole nother beast on a way higher level.

Mugen is limited to what it can offer as far as an expansive interactive experience.

MMO's offer way more to a player: leveling grinding, PvP, Raiding, and then doing the whole thing all over again as different classes.

Way more of a dangerous addiction.

Due to Everquest my buddy lost his job, his girlfriend, became a heroin addict & eventually lost his house & everything he had.

True story, MMORPG's are a dangerous addiction.

mmorg is a different story I had to constantly bother my lil bro until he gave it up. He started to realize how bland any boring most of them were. That could work for some of you. It can start off as a joke and then become a serious problem..

The only method I can think of getting un-addicted to mugen or any type of MMO is to stay away from the computer for about a week.  In a weeks span, you'll eventually find another thing to occupy your time.
