I don't see it happening though. If you are bored and willing to spend some money you can always take a 2.5" external HDD and mod the cartridge. See this link:

The only problem with your idea is that HDD's are fragile and when they are not carefully taken care of they break. One thing is that they can't be thrown around like NES cartridges.

I got one crazy one for you guys!! I used to clean my nes cartriges with water back in the day lol!! It's nuts, but it works!!! then I dry them off (of course lol ) then do the wiggle method and poof my game works lol!!

Not only would it survive. It would obliterate the foot of Chuck Norris and make his beard leap from his face.
