The City's Buildings
« on: November 08, 2009, 01:38:38 PM »
Alright guys. if you know my stage The city's windows and liked it. this should seem very cool to you, yes because it is the building from the windows in the BG. The temple looking place was a free to use sprite that I used credit to JNP's forum.

Animated- Yes fireworks
Music-Yes

Enjoy

None of the elements in this stage mesh very well at all. The huge contrast in color between the temple and background is rather jarring. As well, the fireworks don't match the background. Except the lossy artifacted footage you used, but the substandard quality on that also hurts the stage. Another thing I notice is that your current skill set doesn't really allow you to make something like fireworks. So crediting or giving a shoutout to whoever actually made them would be a better call instead of taking credit for those as well. Aesthetically the thing is a nightmare and you really need to work on blending foreground and background images to deliver better results. I haven't even looked into the coding yet however I'm sure someone one some forum will do that for you.

Stage isn't even centered correctly, bounds are wrong...

Code: [Select]
boundleft = -86
boundright = 69

Yeah GLB, you still haven't improve much and TomJones pretty much stated all your problems with this stage.

the fireworks aren't stolen, so why should credit be given. anyways thank you for the comment and they don't "mesh" well together because the image was jigsawed so dithering messed it up. I don't beleive its fair to be judgmental over someones stage because you dislike how there artwork is. regardless of the fact I cannot draw or make very good designs, I have not stolen the fireworks. So to call me a thief was very offensive  :| thank you for your accusations and feedback.

It's quite fair to judge a stage based on the fact that it's not atheistically sound. And no, dithering has nothing to do with the fact that your floor doesn't match the cityscape what so ever. While it's true that contrasting elements can be used to make a stage, there also needs to be flawless execution to make it work. This stage didn't have that. As for the fireworks, I never said you stole them. That's you looking too deep into what I said. I said that with your current skill set and knowing which applications you do and don't have at your disposal, that you did not make the fireworks on your own. So either someone else made them for you, or you got them from an alternative source. So if that's calling you a thief then yeah, I guess I completely called you a thief.
 Muted to enforce previous ban, untill full banning can be done again.

For Dithering I was talking about the color loss. As for the "feedback" I appreciate it HankVenture.

The bounds are messed up because the width is an odd number of pixels btw

I liked your windows stage so I thought I would check this one out... A few things I noticed...

- Background doesn't look hi-res... the image may be too big or something because it just looks pixelated in most places...
- Fireworks animation needs to be smoother...
- Stage definitely needs to be wider...

Other that, awesome job. :thumbsup:

Temple does not match up with the background at all. It isn't easy mixing a 2d sprite with a edited real life photo. Probably would have been better if you even chose the original without the color overlay. Also, the artifacts kill the background. But yeah, that's about all I have. Hopefully you don't lock the thread again.
