Anyone into Trading Card Games?
« on: August 18, 2009, 03:20:56 PM »
I was wondering is or has been interested in TCG like Yugioh,Pokemon ,Magic the Gathering or others  :cool
I'm currently playing actively Yugioh after a few years of having a lot of fake cards, all thanks to getting hooked up to the anime again thanks to 5D's...i already have a few decks and recently there was a pre-release of a new booster set(Ancient Prophecy for those interested) which is pretty decent

So what's your experience in the land of card games?

I play yu-gi-oh when ever i can find someone to go up agisnt.

I used to play Magic and Pokemon, but all my cards and decks for both are in a box someplace i cant get to.

My yu-gi-oh deck uses acient gear and gadget monsters, and a few other tricks to bring out big nastys as fast as i can.

At best i can get a 3 turn kill, but usualy i get my kill in 5-10 turns.

*cough* I was a Yu-Gi-Oh national champion *cough*

I quit playing for a few years & I still didn't fall out of the highest 100 in the country. I just recently started playing again. I kind of dig the Crystal Beasts, but the deck isn't as strong. So I roll with Synchro or I have a to kick it old school. I have a bad @$$ magician deck.

If you look at my art thread, you will see my magic lands that I did my own art on.

i'm currently running a Blackwing deck at local tourneys(which got hit bad by the list...poor Gale the Whirlwind  \-/o ),i started with the spellcaster's structure deck when it just came out and i was able to build a Morphtronic deck(with Power Tool Dragon and equips) which turns out to be pretty good
I want to build Aliens soon, but the banlist took away the main draw card the deck had(Card of safe return)

@DT: Yu-gi-oh National Champion?WOW...what year it was and what were you running?
I remember the drawings you made over those Magic lands... :cool

@Spidermew: do you use Gear Town? if you do,that deck is really fun once you get out the 3 Gadjiltron Dragons at the same time! 8-}

The premade i started with was called something else, but it came with an Acient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon, ive only got 1 of those in here, but ive got 3 Acient Gear Golems and 3 level converson labs. 3 each of the red, yellow and green gadgets, a few other good acient gear monsters that also work as filler or agro replacements with their gadget sacrafice effects and some other magic and trap cards that let me shuffle cards back into the deck or search for a card, and a few nasty traps that can do allot of damage to both sides if misused.
Its major drawback is lack of life gain.

I call it The Lost Factory, or The Acient Mecha Hanger.

Well I used to play yugioh for like 4-5 years.  Ill still have my cards.  Thousands of them. lol My favorite deck was my Blue Eyes Ulitmate Dragon Deck  XD||, and My cyber dragon deck.  My favorite card was Ordeal of a Traveler, and u would know why if u know what it does.
When people would play me they would be winning at first, and then in one move from me they are DEAD lol

I used to play YGO activly, and collect, I want to get into YGO again, but well recently I picked up one of those new DS games and I was like
WHOAAAAAAA
so much has changed since I played.
whats with all this new stuff like Synco or whatever?
If I may get into deck detail
I (used to) focus on using traps and magic, with strong attack monsters (and strong defensive monsters such as Mystical Elf ect.)
I also got some cards I would mix-match between duels and I had 2 main themes, either Exodia or FINAL
but I don't know if you guys accept those anymore.
i'll re-check some of my YGO TCG to re-check more info since it's been awhile since I dueled a human.

edit
(click to show/hide)

and yes I do have all of these cards, except for Blue Eyes Ultimate, instead of that I use trap hole and a second negate attack
although when I play some of the newer games I have a revised version, basicly some monsters with the same attack points, but effects.

such an old school collection negi...
But yeah, the game has evolved a lot during the last 2 years...with lot of cards with game breaking effects and an entire new mechanic(Synchro monsters, which is like a combination of Rituals+Fusions) it changed so much from the time where the monster with the higher attack would win you the game

yeah, but like I said whenever I played those newer games I swap out some of the cards with other cards with the same attack, but now have special effects like that "normal" Magician of Black Chaos
even within my normal deck as I mentioned I variate it from play to play
using other cards such as Dark Elf or  Penguin Solider ect.

my "signature" card (think Yugi's Dark Magician) is, Neo the Magic Swordsman.

based on what you guys do know, how would you rate my deck there?

well, many of the cards that your deck has are banned from what is called "Advanced" format(which is the one ppl play the most as tournaments are played with it)
And as i said, that deck could have been good back in the old days, but now it can be defeated by a structure deck strategy.Over the few years playing the game(even though i played with fake cards casually) a deck has to have some strategy to win instead of random cards put together
Take the example of a structure deck, which is based on a single strategy with cards that are the key to successfully do it

@Daigo:yeah...they are pretty cool...many considered Blackwings the Six Samurai of the synchro era. They are not as strong as they used to be though

Yeah, most synchro decks fell apart due to the limitation of emergency teleport, I remember I made a synchro samurai deck that I never lost with, but now it wouldn't do so good.

What I find odd is that no one's mentioned VS. This game was so bad @ss and really strategic. It's essentially Marvel vs DC in card form (with a special appearance by Hellboy).

Hell, I still play my Insanity deck from time to time. Too bad it got discontinued, but there are so many sets out there anyways. The other thing that sucked as well was that the only thing that wasn't Marvel/DC was the Hellboy set, but he does rule @ss. Always ran with Arkham Inmates and Revenge Squad though.

We stopped checking for monsters under our bed when we realized they were inside of us.

it's not exaclty layed out that my cards are just random.
I have a few combos here and there, to be quite honest though, I forgot what most of them are.  ???
mostly all 1-2 combos of course.
I played one guy who used a combo simular to my insect combo
I think it was Umi + Tornado Wall
raargh, I hate that one.
most Mako Tsunami a.i.'s use it alot too. <.< I can see why some cards are banned more clearly now that I think about it...

Played Pokemon back in the day growing up but then switched to Yu-Gi-Oh but after a while, just got bored of that. Still have my warrior and Exodia deck though. :P Tried Magic once, couldn't get into the game.

@ KPT

I qualified at shonen jump tournament & won my cyber stein with a choas deck . My deck was so fast I would literally fly through my entire deck bring out the dragon & blow everything up . Usually get the Yata lock . It was early in the year & they pretty much banned yata & choas .

So I built the soul control deck . No matter what anyone tells you , I was the first one to run that deck . I won the tournament in Columbus & my d*mn deck was put on the internet . So everyone at nationals was now playing my deck . But I had the edge , because I invented it & knew how to play it better than anyone . It's like I knew all the ins & outs of the deck & all the different scenarios I could do with it .  before the tournament I was practicing against people with another deck that I was going to use . Normal monsters with order to charge & stuff like that . Because I didn't want to use what everyone else was using , even thoughit was mine . Glad I changed my mind right before I fil;led out my deck list .

@ batzarro

The reason why no one mentions vs , because the game blows .

There is no strategy , it's already predetermined decks built . For yu gi oh , say your favorite card is " Blue Eyes White Dragon " You can throw that card in any deck  you build . Say my favorite card is batman for VS . I can't just throw batman in a fantastic four deck just because I like the card . he would be a worthless draw .

I played that stupid game because Upper Deck was trying to push it . They had big tournaments & actually gave away cash . The d*mn game was so boring it put me to sleep . I had a Bad@$$ fantastic four deck that was almost unbeatable . But it was the same crap over & over . Turn one out comes Invisible woman , turn 3 was human torch , Turn 5 the Thing . Something like that , I don't remember  there numbers . BOOOOOOOOOORING .

Then I tried to play again when the Batman stuff all came out , same sh*t , different characters . BOOOOOORING

No one wanted to play a game that the staple deck is already built for you from the company . Your oart is to aquire the cards for it . In Yu Gi Oh Jinzo can come out on turn one possibly or turn 5 . There is no randomness of VS like that . Silver Surfer comes out on turn 7 , that's it .

It was cool because it was a game around my favorite comic heroes . Too bad the game wasn't better .

That's why the discontinued the game , because it just plain sucked .

You can't just throw a Blue Eyes White Dragon in any deck and expect it to work, in most cases it would be a useless draw to. You would have to build a deck around it with support cards, and of course, the same ol' overused staples. Yu-gi-oh got boring with all this synchro junk, I liked when people got creative, D.D. Turbo is still one my favorite deck.

Check the new banlist that will be applied since sept 1st,then check the latest structure decks to get started(as they serve as a good base overall) or the starter decks if you need to get started into the synchro mechanic

Other than that, the game is pretty easy to pick up where you left(like i did)
