Converting WAV files to MP3

Is there any way to convert .WAV format sound files to MP3 files?  I was thinking of using some of the quotes from Deadpool in a Star Wars: Jedi Academy skin of Deadpool (that I'm never going to release; it's for private use), but when I tried using the WAV files, the stupid skin switched to the default male Jaden (the character you play as in single player mode) sound set.

you can use a freeware program called Audacity to convert WMV to MP3, but you will also need to download an MP3 plugin called LAME_MP3 (i think) if you don't have it already

Cool edit does it too, but another free program I use is Auto MP3 Gold.
