Been working on him since last week  :lol:
Still working on shading and the such, more to come soon.

This is the image I used as torso base

He will hopefully be as wacky and brutal as in the vid with ridiculous knockback power

Awesome, someone else has played this game.  :D

I tried spriting Gene a while back, but he came out looking pretty half-baked. Yours looks pretty good, although the head seems a little tiny to me.

If you need any help on this project, let me know. I've always wanted to see Gene come to mugen.  :)

I think the game is just for ps2 last time I checked, but I kno that its 100% awesome!

He looks pretty good so far. I agree that his head does seem a little small though. Maybe try and get rid of some of the sharp edges on his coat as well. Something to try at least. Keep up the good work.  :)

Intro to Mid Punch Sprite, took a lot, had to re-study shading, and this is the result. thx KudosForce!
This will be a slow WIP, may need help, I`ll work as much as possible with both Gene and Viewtiful Joe.

-Gene will be ground based, like in GodHand. As in NO aerial moves.

Basic Moves
-Light Punch - spammable 3 times
-Medium Punch
-Strong Punch - mini uppercut, will slightly raise opponent in air (chargeable)
-Light Kick - [no idea yet]
-Medium Kick - Drop Kick, chargeable. Once opponent impacts the floor (if charged) will rise to air slighly.
-Strong Kick - Only to be used in combo, slow startup, will have ridiculous knockback  ;D
-Crouch Punches [no idea yet]
-Crouch Kicks     [no "solid" ideas yet]

Hypers

  *Will be recreated from the vid*
-Daisy Cutter
-Face Runner
-One Inch Punch
-Home Run God
-Shaolin Blast (edited version)

---How he will play------
Gene`s knockback power will most usually bounce opponents back and give more comboability.
Say you use:
LPx3   MP   Skick = Knockback, enemy bounces back to you -> Home Run God hyper.
 (PlayBall lol)
Because of these attacks, Gene will be completely Ground based, he will only have two aerial attacks:

-Shoryuken Style punch *see above vid*
-Aerial Suplex/Grapple moves. [still need ideas]

When you say no aerial moves... you mean he won't be able to jump?

Also... the shading needs a metric ton of work. The art style reminds me of Big Eli King's old hand-drawn moreso than Capcom. Godhand was tight so good luck with this - but you really ought to find a set of bases.

I love this game! This was Clover Studios last title before they shut down. Pretty awesome 3D Final Fight type game that went under the radar. Gene kinda reminds me of Dante, also what other game where you can actual spank the female opponents?

Following ANC`s suggestion for proportion, and he was right, the legs and torso were a bit too big, so I removed some and comparing old and new (new is smaller), now the head doesn`t look tiny lol.
What do you guys think?

A quick take as promised in PM. Johann (RotD) and Necro (SF3) are relatively unused bases, and you can still capture the look of the character pretty easily. If you wanted to be more specific and edit Necro's gear into Gene's a bit more precisely, then go to town. Although, I think this catches it well enough with the lined pants, kneecap protectors and mismatched boots.

I have a really full plate, so that's the most I can suggest. I also still really suggest you make a few sprite edits before trying to dive into scratched WIPs. Very few pull that off, but many don't. Your work so far suggests you're one of the many, not the few.

Editing for awhile teaches us all a lot of useful tricks. Good luck.

Johann from RoTD seems to work quite well as a head base. Your latest still looks like his head is a size too small. Very nice work on the emblem on his back, though.

I'd imagine that part and the 'deistic brace' have to be among the most frustrating parts of spriting Gene.
