Help with my screenpack wip

What's up guys? I need help figuring out how to make it so that I can have two portraits for each character on my select screen, or making it so you can have the characters standing animation loop when your selecting each character, plus have a portrait. I thought about making one portrait with two pictures spaced out like the EOH ones, but then it wouldn't work on my vs screen. I read that you can do it, I just can't figure it out, and it's crucial that I do. Thanks to anyone that can help.

It was on IMT actually. I just can't remember the thread's name and can't find it anymore. It didn't really explain it in the thread, a few people just said that it was possible, but that you would either have to code it into the characters themselves, or the screenpack, I can't remember. I was just curious if anyone knew how.
