Select safe mode and run your anti-virus.

Its nothing bad. Just run windows normally. Someone has been turning your computer off incorrectly.

Yea that blackscreen is nothing to worry about unless it is followed by a error like NTLDR missing. If any file related to that is missing you are in a heap of trouble.  NTLDR is one of the boot files for Win XP when it goes missing it gets complicated on how to fix it depending on the number of HDD's you have in your system. I have 4-5 so I had to get a disk (that had the file and acouple others on there) and go through boot up the machine and manually replace all of them on each drive.

But a regular Black screen with those messages just means that someone incorrectly turned off your computer. Like what Ice said. Now that could have been you, someone else, or maybe a slight power outage for acouple of minutes/seconds could have done it aswell. But just hit normal start and unless the computer reboots with either an error or just does the whole cycle over again don't worry.

If it just keeps rebooting and cycling let us know it could be something far more serious.

EDIT : Also to correct myself that NTLDR missing procedure I discussed probably only pertained to my computer because I tried Dual booting with Win vista and I kinda screwed my boot sequence up a few times so now I have to have those boot files on every disk.

But again DO NOT PANIC!!! lol just try the normal startup and everything should be fine.

EDIT2: But please report back if you run into anymore problems im sure we can help you.

Why did you do the recovery process? Did you try and do the normal boot? Or did you go straight to recovery? If you went straight to recovery you probably just made a huge hassle for yourself when you could have tried normal boot and it probably would have worked just fine. Reformat/recovery should always be the last resort when you just don't have anymore clues on how to solve a problem. Windows can be resurrected without using those processes in most if not all circumstances. You just have to be good at googling information and using that information.

Well like I said 95% of the time you can restore xp or atleast get a disk off the net to salvage and backup all info. So reformat should be a extreme last ditch effort when you have spent literally 12 hours straight and can't fix the problem. Trust me ive totally screwed up the master boot record on each harddrive on this comp and restored it without having to reformat. It just takes a heck of alot of searching on google and most of all patience.

That bites. I hope you enjoy "mugen collecting", and you can look at it this way, at least you'll be guaranteed to have all of the most recent versions now.

Now you can reminisce over the mugen chars you used to get.
