« on: May 13, 2009, 03:22:46 AM »
Okay, so I've been looking to buy a PSP for a while now and before I do I was wondering a few things..

1. What games should I get?

2. How can I get Emulators like this on my psp?

3. Any memory device that I need to get in case I want alot of ROMS?

You can't get emulators and stuff on new PSPs. You'll need the Fat PSP or PSP slim (Not the new psp slim with bright ligh).

Also its highly recommended to get a 2GiG Micro SD card for your PSP if you are planning to hack the firmware to use Homebrew/PS1/PSP iso's.

:D @ 2 Gig. Buy the most expensive memory stick and then you can fill that baby up with Iso's, roms and music. If you need Iso's, just pm me.

yea the new one's are hack proof. i recommend a phat like i have since its a lot more durable. i have a darth vader one that was broken cuz it fell
as for memory sticks get an 8gig. u can find them cheap on ebay(i got mine for $16)  they're like $60+ at stores like gamestop. u can get a 16 gig too
to get games for *cough* free, u need to hack it with a pandoras battery and magic memory stick. youtube is the way to go. just search for something like "hiw to hack psp tutorial" u'll prbably need to buy another battery cuz the pandoras automatically turns ur psp on, but i've seen ppl do it by dling programs onto their memory stick

I recommend you get a Phat PSP, the newer slims are almost unidentifyable (believe me...  8=|)
I also advice you to get a card bigger than 2gb, at least 4Gb if using for ISOs or PSX games (legally owned  <_<|...|)

Uh... it should work with the PSP 2000 as well... but like everyone else says.. I think the PSP 3000 is hack proof...

(PSP2000 = Slim)

Um... you'll need a Pandora's battery to play free downloaded games...

I really don't have a modded PSP... and I probably won't till I get the new PSP2 (aka 4000).. ;*))
I don't think you should mod a PSP unless you have money to get another one, because your PSP might break and if you try to return it... they'll find out that you modded it and you can't have it replaced then...

My games are Crisis Core, Prince of Persia (the only 2 made for it... Don't get if you already have Warrior Within & Two Thrones.. they're like direct ports pretty much... lol...), Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX (it's only $15), Tekken Dark Resurrection...

If you want the PoP games.. Gamestop is having a 2-for-1 thing going on.. I got both for like... $30.. ;*))

:lies:

Actually it's only the 3000 that's no longer able to hold custom firmware... the 2000 still can...

OLDER PSP 2000s, from about November 2007+ are equipped with the TA88v3 motherboard which is unhackable, trust me, a friend got a slim from about mid 2008 and it was unhackable, I tried even the oldest pandora method and no menu showed up on THAT psp but it showed just fine on my older 2000 (early 2007 model) and the old trusty 1000

Get a 2000.  I have one and I love it!  I just ordered a 16 gb memory stick!  You can buy pandora batteries off amazon or something for like $12.

Okay I'm looking at Pandora Batteries on Amazon and I noticed this...

Please Note: this Pandora battery forces your PSP to enter recovery mode every time the PSP is turned on. It cannot be used as a regular battery for playing games.

Do all Pandora batteries do this?

i think so. when i've used a pandoras battery it forces the psps to turn on. u can't turn it off while its inside. the pandoras can't be used for gaming its for hacking psp

If you do get a PSP, GET PRINNY! That games a must have. Its a throwback to classic platformers like the megaman titles. It's really hard, but so awesome. Other games you should check out:

Ultimate Ghouls N' Ghost - A 2.5D remake of Super Ghouls N' Ghost. Its just as hard as it was on the SNES, lol.

Megaman: Maverick Hunter X - A 2.5D Megaman X remake. If you loved MMX you'll love this. One of the coolest new features in this game is that you get to unlock Vile as a playable character! =D

Daxter - This games graphics are beautiful, rivaling those of PS3 and 360 games as a matter of fact. I heard the games short though. =\

Death Jr. - A decent 3D platformer. Kinda like Super Mario World 64, but with guns. The levels are all pretty long, but I personally think some puzzles, more platforming, and better enemies could've made this game much better.

Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles - Another 2.5D remake, lol. This time of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. You can unlock the original game and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which is quite awesome.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - A prelude to FFVII. This game boast some of the best graphics on the psp. Its sort of an easy game, but still worth it.

Other Stuff Good to Have "on the go":
Bomberman
Lumines
Lumines 2
Every Extend Extra
Super Stardust Portable
Beats

Well, if you install the program called "Time machine" on your PSP, you can use it as a regular battery again. This will require a magic memory stick when turning on the PSP, though.

Nope, sounds like you're set. Although, be very carefull where you download. PSPiso.com has loads of stuff but it killed my computer once, then again it was an old Hewlett Packard.

OK I am a computer tech.

And actually you can soft mod the newer PSP's but it will have to be a certain model of the newer slims. But your chance of getting one is rare so like everyone here says I would get a PHAT PSP (PSP-1000) and just buy a extra battery and softmod the battery (need help PM me) (and softmod the battery you bought not the one that came with the PSP) and return the PSP for a Slim (PSP-2000) cause the PSP PHAT (PSP-1000) has low virtual memory of 32MB the newer ones have 64MB.

Once you have a softmod battery you can mod your PSP when ever you want if. And I would say to get a 4GB memory stick or you can add a mod to your PSP so that you can use a 8GB stick instead.

PSP Models

PSP Phat = PSP-1000
Has a pressure release button for the UMD door and is slight bigger and heavier then the newer models and has 32MB of virtual memory and does not support TV output playback

PSP Slim = PSP-2000
Slim line Ver of the PSP-1000 the pressure release door was taken away and now has a backdrop door that you release manually and has 64MB of virtually memory so the system has a quicker response and does support TV playback via a output cable

PSP New Slim = PSP-3000
Not much of a difference then the PSP-2000. This console has a few re-designs from the 2 hard key buttons in the from of the console (Home+Start) and has a built in microphone and has a light reflecter to protect your screen from sun glares
