We're still deciding on that. Since I'll be the one programming it, I'll just see what feels most natural to the player.

I am loving the sprites here. I think this will motivate me to do a stage from the GoW series (as I did one from Devil May Cry 3). I had already planned to make one, but I feel more motivated now to do one.

it would be cool if you did both differently..what i mean is adding a level of qte elements to some of the hypers but not all of em while keeping the higher levels of qte to fatalities with different qte moves and all.

I'm in the process of learning how to make "good" characters right now. Kratos was one of the first people I wanted to make, but it looks like you beat me to it. I have so many ideas for him it's ridiculous. I'm sure you have it all planned out as well, and I wish you luck. The sprites look really good, and can't wait to see what you got next. If you're making him MvC style, you should definitely give him a move to where after he launches an opponent, he could rip them back down with his chains and slam them into the ground behind him or chain into another combo or something. That would be cool.  =P~ This is definitely a good character to retire with. Again, good luck on this project.

Thanks for the support. He won't be MVC styled. We're going for a more original gameplay, and more true to the actual games. I guess it's time I should post his gameplay.

Kratos's gameplay will focus a lot on combos (duh), just like in the original games. If you saw a combo in the games, you're likely to see it here. He will be able to preform ground combos, air combos, and ground to air combos.


Kratos will utilize all 6 buttons, but will only attack with four of them. I will explain what the other two buttons are for below.

A - weak/medium punch
B - hard punch
C - block
X - weak/medium kick
Y - hard kick
Z - weapon system


Blocking

As you see, kratos has a block button. There are several reasons for this:

1) Holding back to block is too easy. Kratos will be a tactical character. That means you're going learn when you need to block.

2) It stays true to the original game.

3) Considering what we have planned for his gameplay, the block button is a key part of how he will play. It could have something to do with the golden fleece, as well as other gameplay mechanics. ;*))


Some of you may be worried about this, and may be thinking "a block button? Uh oh, I hope it doesn't play like mortal kombat, that's way too stiff". Well I assure you, it will not. I'm going to make it as natural and smooth as possible. Also, you will not be limited to just blocking. You will be able to roll(evade) during blocking, or you may counter attack. The choice is up to the player. Like I've said, the block button is a key part of his gameplay, and I think you will find it to your liking.


Weapon System

Much like in the original games, kratos will have a weapon system. You'll be able to switch weapons on the fly, as well as during combos. More to come about this later....

That's what I'm talking about. Everything sounds good so far. I like the idea of the four attack buttons and the other two being utilized for tactical purposes. Are you also planning on giving him his god/rage mode? Also, it would be a huge pain I know, but that would be cool if you also did an alternate costume for him with all his armor on, if that's even possible. By possible, I mean you could select it by holding start or something when you select him. I know you'd have to make a whole new set of sprites, but it would be awesome, and I don't think I've ever seen anyone do that before. Anyways, I like all your ideas for him. He sounds like he's definitely going to be a lot of fun. Can't wait to see some videos.  :w00t:

its pretty easy to have this set up on the ps1 pad

You may say it's a bit "too much" as for one char project or it can be "too soon" for this kind of things, so let me answer you already:

It's not "too much" because me and Kratos are very serious and we're putting whole our hearts into this project to make it perfect. This character won't be just for for one Mugen launching - I assure you.
And it's also not "too soon" for such step since we want to inform people about the progress in one specific place (it's more comfortable for us and you).

Note: There's no God of War full game coming from us, but new Kratos' journey. So please, don't ask if we could make some other characters from GoW too.

Stay tuned for some updates that are coming soon enough.

this sounds pretty interesting. how would it be? a graphic-based choose option like in magicians games or a drop-switch-up one like Alien Vs Predator?
