Marvel: War Of Attrition(Screenpack Finished and Released)
« on: February 09, 2009, 06:43:04 PM »

I  am back and finally ready to create this game the way i should've done from the start so without further udo all of the info needed:

Characters:

Iron Fist
SabreTooth
Beta Ray Bill
Juggernaut
Collosus
Deadpool
Beast
Ultimate Doc Ock
Black Widow
Captain Mar-Vell
Black Cat
The Watcher
Moon Knight:
Loki
Nightcrawler
Elektra
Galactus
The Vision
Jean Grey
Rouge
Blade
Cyclops
Blzck Bolt
She-Hulk
Invisible Woman
Venom
Scarlet Witch
Hank Pym
Human Torch
Storm
Namor
Nick Fury
Kingpin
Doctor Strange
Black Panther
Emma Frost
The Red Skull
Bucky barnes
Bullseye
Professor X
Silver Surfer
Hawkeye
Mr.Fantastic
Thor
The Punisher
Iron Man
Green Goblin(Monster Form)
Daredevil
The Hulk
Doctor Doom
Kitty Pryde
The Thing
Magneto
Captain America
Spiderman
Peter Parker

Wolverine

Gameplay:

The game will be based off of a 6-button configuration not including the movement buttons, it will be based off of the mvc template but heavily changed. Each character will have 4 hyper and 2 special moves in their arsenal. There will be 2 medium-damage hypers and 2 heavy-damage hypers. CHaracters will move and play as they would really actin the comics, giving a sense of realness and originality to each chracters. NO CHARACTER WILL BE ANYTHING LIKE ANOTHER!!!!!They will posses their own unique movesets. Ask if there are any questions.

Graphics:

In appearance thisgame will look very similar to MvC but the characters will look more graphically pleasing with better details and comic like aspects. I am also hoping that a good screenpacker maker can help make the screenpack act like a big comic book, sort of like the one in Ultimate Spiderman. Their will also be a comic-style font along with comic strip bubbles in order to really bring the comic books to life.

Stages:

I read alot of comics but i would like the mugen community to give me the best ideas for stages so that ya'll can feel apart of this game's creation.

All right i have told you what i think ya'll wanted to know from the start now i want to know if anyone in the community is interested in joining the team, because i need a whole team for this project.
The main people i need at this time are spriters.......

Well, sounds like a good start, I wish you the best on this. So each character is only going to have 2 special move but have 4 hypers? It'll be interesting to see which special moves you keep for each "old" character and which ones will be thrown out.

I don't think I see the point of the roster, EoH roster was based on what Marvel and Capcom characters were actually made and were available where this roster seems to be just a big long wish list. There's nothing wrong with that but it begs the question that I'm sure you just waiting to be asked, which characters are you making?

Lovely. I'm glad we have a general idea of how the game will play. My only issue is characters having 2 specials I don't think a whole characters arsenal and power subsets can be confined to two special moves, it reminds me too much of a Genesis/SNES Marvel game where the number of specials were limited.

How about this; we pick a Capcom character example, someone who has lots of special attacks (War Machine) and make a mental note of the amount of moves consisting of their fighting style. War Machine has 5 specials so involving him in the game, (he's a clone looking Iron Man in the Capcom games but since there will be no duplicates, only originals this is a moot point. What this comment relates to is in the event the Mugen creator is replicating his MvC moves) you'd be cutting out 3 of them.

What I suggest is, let's pick an MvC character like War Machine to follow as an example and make it so that every character has a total of 4 or 5 specials. This is the standard in Marvel/Capcom Versus games. It also creates more variety for the player. If anything I thought we could expand on those movesets, my idea is to make every hero 6 or 7 specials and then we as a team can balance them out.

Glad to see we are back with a plan!

ok, if you can code the first thing to do is to recode the existing marvel characters with adding some new moves , ending and intros to make them very different. Start with a classic: i m sure you will do this sooner, i for one would be sure to help but for now, i m not interested because i don t understand who does what or whatever.
And how good are you with coding, did you get time to correct the codes from captain america: heroes reborn, because this could prove this project isn t a worthless discussion again and i wil send you the new hypers to code later. I don t wanna lose my time again.

-FilthyKadaver is starting on moon knight

-I have agreed with spidercide and i will be incorporating 6 specials into each character.

Just an idea but wouldn't it be better to make a smaller game to start, because making a game with 56 characters is al little big. I would suggest to split it up. By first making a War Of Attrition I with For example 20 characters then a follow up War Of Attrition II with 40 character and then the last in the series  War Of Attrition III with all 56 characters.

If you want people to truly have faith in this, you seriously need to slim down the list of chars. You can definitely update later, but considering you're not a spriter, there's no guarantee anyone will sprite these. I would slim the list down to all the chars that are already (with the exception of chars others made the sprites for that you definitely won't get permission for, like Deadpool) and add in a few extra ones that aren't made yet. Ones that are already WIPs would be best as there's a far greater chance they will be in the game. Any of the old ones you can just go ahead and update with a few new moves and they'd be ready to go.

If I were you, I'd slim the list down to this for now.

SabreTooth
Juggernaut
Collosus
Beast
Captain Mar-Vell
Nightcrawler
Galactus
The Vision
Jean Grey
Rouge
Blade
Cyclops
Venom
Scarlet Witch
Human Torch
Storm
Nick Fury
Doctor Strange
Emma Frost
The Red Skull
Professor X
Silver Surfer
Mr.Fantastic
The Punisher
Iron Man
Daredevil
The Hulk
Doctor Doom
The Thing
Magneto
Captain America
Spiderman
Wolverine

All of those ones that came from the actual MvC games are already made and you could ask for permission from people to update, or look for open source ones like Sludge's. Others you could try asking permission for like Punisher, Daredevil, Galactus, and others like that. Then there's a few up there that have some open source sprites like Comedy Hahaha's Jean Grey and Prof. X that you could finish making. Anything on that list that wasn't made by the companies themselves are either made (and you can try asking permission for) or have some open source stuff to build off of.

Just think this would be the smart way to go about this and give it a far greater chance of success. :)

We stopped checking for monsters under our bed when we realized they were inside of us.

Mr.Fantastic
The Punisher
Iron Man

Kitty Pryde isn't completely original. Somebody is working on her and has her at least around 20%, maybe more? Just saying. Given the title, you might want to take a more Civil War focus, and narrow it down to say 20 of the prominent players from that event?

Alright, i thank everybody for their help and suggestions but i want to go back to my original idea, because 'm not afraid of a long-term WIP and that's how i planned the game to be anyway. I understand how long characters take to make and all that has to go in them, i'm not another noob attempting to make a name for himself by creating some huge and impossible game, i have been dreaming of this game's existence for a very long time and i think that the best way to bring it to life is through mugen. So i'll be sticking to my original roster, but i would like help and comments on anything else that can be discussed just not the roster unless you have a good reason why a specific person should or should not be on the list

a good reason why a specific person should or should not be on the list
because no one is really working on those characters.  :|

I mean, look at EOH. They don't just assign members of the team characters to work on. They just make the characters they want, which is part of what makes working on a team project unique.

And not to parrot others, but I recommend you show some of your work if you're trying to get anyone to take you seriously. You say you can code, there's plenty of Marvel chars with available sprites. Go code Spiderman or something MWoA style and I'm sure you'll draw some attention to your project.

- I do give my team the option of who they would like to work on, it's just based on a list that they can either choose from or give me a good reason another character should be added

-I'm working on Collosus, in order to make him MWOA style as we speak

I agree with this , if Acey would've " assigned " me to make say Sentry . I never would have done it , because I don't think I would enjoy making that character . I made Wolevenom because I wanted to . Laspacho made Metalman , Apoc made Punisher because they wanted to etc ....

I think when you are working on a character you want to make they turn out better anyway . Because the creator is getting enjoyment out of what he is doing . I think assigning people characters to make is a bad move .
