hi
Ive just downloaded a 1000 or more character torrent pack, which looks to have come with X box mugen instead of the mugen for the PC. It seems very unstable, I can load it up on the pc but it closes down a couple of mins after while playing.

Can I just get MUGEN for the pc and just drop the character files and stage files into that or would I have to do something else to it to get it to work well?

Im very new at this so Im not sure how this all works yet. Could some one please help me out?
anything would be great at the moment ???
cas

The problem is, when you download huge warehoused files like that, you get buggy characters, or old versions of characters.
Best bet would be to build your mugen from scratch. Check the database or  <_<|google| and you can find the program by itself.

thanks guys, cheers for your help, would it be best to just delete it and find more recent characters?  while downloading this I thought that it would be good to make a game with all the best fighting characters from mk, DBZ and SFA ect....but thinking now that it wont be that easy lol

Yeah its best to start from scratch and build up from there. You can always have a separate mugen to test characters and stages before you move them to your main mugen.

Another thing to keep in mind is that MUGEN uses a ton of memory. So if you don't have a lot of RAM in your computer, you're more likely to have issues when you load up 1000 characters and stages. Its mp3 playback is also a huge source of crashes. Go check out the "Fixed mp3 plugin" thread over in MUGEN Discussion (it's stickied at the top). There's a couple of good fixes in their for getting sound playback to work without skipping or crashing the game. I'd also recommend disabling music on the Title, Select, and Versus screens (unless your screenpack is using music in .ogg format). Feel free to ask around if you need help with any of that.

And like Spidermew said, don't worry too much about those old warehouses and torrents. Most of us start out trying to cram every character they find into their MUGEN, but eventually we figure out that it's much more enjoyable to have a smaller roster filled with high-quality characters (or at least characters you really enjoy!)

So go browse the Database, hang out in the Release sections, and watch some videos in Show and Tell to get some ideas of characters you'd really like to have. Then go search for them.  :)

thanks for the advice , I did download a couple of packs which said had no bugs on it but only a few mins in to the fight it just shut down, it did have 1000 characters so thats most likely why, but ill take a few characters and test them on another mugen, which MUGEN is the best one to download?

well Broken Mugen would be the choice or

"mugen all characters battle" that 1 seems to be the popular one for staters
