but what I'm saying is it sounds like he wants the imt sword template... witch I dont think he can have now can he?

Oh yeah he can't use the sword nor dagger(mod avatars) avatars but he can use the shield one.

I use Photoshop CS3 Extended. Basically what I do is grab the avy template load it. Then grab a render(a cutout picture of a character) and resize it using image size tool. Then I move the render layer below the template render, position the way I like it then use the eraser tool to take out all of the stuff I dont want. Then I take a prominant color from the render and use paint bucket tool to fill in the avy template.
