I could really use some advice...
« on: October 06, 2008, 10:14:22 PM »
Yeah, I'm kind of having a dilema.

You see, I'm in a relationship. Everything is fine and all, but there's a small issue. Today, My  girlfriend has made it clear that she wants me to be "the one." My problem is that I'm just not paricularly sure I'm ready yet.

Could anyone give me any advice about telling this to her in a way that won't offend her?

*Sigh* Life is Complicated..,

How old are you/is she?
And well when women get like that, its probably not possable to not offend her by saying your not sure.
You could try to explain how you dont think your mature enough for the relationship that level yet, that might help...

I'm 19. And I was thinking about doing that, but I just wanted input from other people.

No, but she's very sensitive, and I just don't want to give her the impression that I don't ever want to, just not now.

Just do comparisons. Like if you had two people falling off a cliff, and you could only chose one, which one would you save.

That was pretty much what I asked myself in my last relationship, and I ended it at that.

I was in a similar situation to you, and I handled it kinda like VKM. If you had to choose between being with this girl for the rest of your life, or never ever seeing her again, which would you choose? That right there is how you'll find your answer.

In my case, I chose to stay with her. Turns out I really do love her and I was just scared to commit, but I was more scared of losing her for it. Happily ever after so far.
Good luck to you.

Just make sure you think about every possible aspect of this, leave no stone unturned so to speak because the last thing you wanna do is offend someone who cares about you that much. And after all that if you really think your not ready for it then the answer is clear but tragic for her. You guys might wanna have a conversation about this when your ready and you have thought it over. Just make sure its what you want, i went through the same dilemma and I didnt think it through and here I alone so be careful.

Thanks a lot for your help, guys.
Me and her had a conversation about it today, and she was totally cool about it. She was just glad that I was open to her about it, and that I didn't keep anything from her.

So thanks again, Infinity. I don't honestly think I could have done this without your help.:) (Most of my friends are idiots when it comes to this sort of thing...)

I think saying "holy crap woman, I'm not even old enough to drink yet, let alone commit my entire life to another human being forever! slow your roll!" would probably work.

I think saying "holy sh*t woman, I'm not even old enough to drink yet, let alone commit my entire life to another human being forever! slow your roll!" would probably work.
When she says your the one, does she mean having relations?

oh yeah, that too.

I assumed she meant marriage. if she's just talking about premarital sex, you're good as gold, man.
