Silent Hill Homecoming
« on: October 04, 2008, 01:17:00 AM »
I just got SHH.
It's pretty good. Ignore the IGN review. I never really like IGN's reviews, they're always a bunch of elitists.

Anyway, the game is sweet. I haven't gotten very far though. Personally I think it's way better then SH4.

I picked it up at Circuit City and they gave me this kick @$$ Pyramid Head keychain (on the back Silent Hill Homecoming is engraved). The PH's design is the one from the movie with the pointy head.
I'm not sure if PH is in the game. I know he's in the dream sequence, but you can only see his sword.

I got mine for 360 because I have SH3 songs ripped to my 360.  ;)

The game is spooky as hell.
There's this one part where you have to chose to kill your mom, or let her die in some messed up stretch contraption. That was pretty depressing.  Right now I'm in the 2nd version prison.
I'm not sure if Pyramid Head is a boss but I have ran into him at the hotel.

To me this is more of a sequel to the Silent Hill movie then the games. Like they have smoke coming from the streets. Then there's this level where your in a disfigured mining refinery.  Also for a first time, humans are enemies. Those guys in the bio-hazard suits from the movie. Most of them use a steel pipe to attack, some use rifles. The game is kind of a  mix between RE4 and SH2. It has a similar camera to RE4, and it also has those things where you have to press a button or you die. It's also like SH2 because you can free roam in SH like you could in the first 2 games.

The story is you have nightmares of your kid bro, so you go home after being discharged, except you find your hometown in fog and surrounded in creatures. You eventually find out that your brother is missing along with a lot of other people. You eventually find out that the reason your hometown is in such a mess is because of a cult that originated in Silent Hill called "The Order". The Order is the same cult that brainwashed Walter Sullivan (the serial killer of SH4). I'm guessing after SH3, The Order was planning world domination or something.

Yep. And depending on how you handle situations, you can get costume items after you beat the game.

I'm aiming for the Pyramid Helmet.  ;)

I just got the game and I'm loving it. If you go to IGN and read the reader reviews there, for the most part, spot on. Otherwise go to 1up for a better official review. The gameplay is sick! I hated getting killed because my char wasn't as combat capable. A must buy for both new fans to the series and old hardcore fans! BTW if your a newbie do yourself a favor and start out with SH2  ;).

Thanks DG!

Well I thought the gameplay was more like RE4 with taking away the camera angles, and the game is a little more action oriented with the ability to dodge. Although SH5 never really gives you any ammo which makes you use blunt objects in the traditional Silent Hill way. They don't even give you much of a fair chance in half of the scenes in SH5, you can't kill enemies for bullets and health items like in RE5, which gives SH5 the survival horror feel, when your on that last bit of health and then you have one of those punching bag arm things around.

I think SH5 could have used more enemies though, because after the first half of the game, besides the bosses you've pretty much seen everything there is to fight. The first time you play the game, you get the feeling of horror, the second, you don't really get that feeling because you get the laser gun and you pretty much know where things spawn and where those horror surprises are. Otherwise it's a really good game. It's just too bad there wasn't a boss fight with The Bogeyman.

lol. I started off with SH4 because I had a demo for the ps2 that got me addicted in suspense of what happens next.
Later on I got SH2-4 and I enjoyed 2 the most.
imo 2 and 5 are the best of the series. 4 was pretty good because it ran on it's own idea's but it felt too much like a subplot. 5 goes back to the cult from the 1st and 3rd game.
Honestly I think SH2 is the only SH game that isn't related to The Order.

I played the 2nd one first
then the 1st one then the Third.
I got to say the first one was actually scariest in some of it's own ways
(just a few)
the second game all in it's own had abit less scares (other then a few obvious parts)
however it had the best story if you ask me.
I only rented the 3rd one so I didn't really get that far....but what I did play was great! (got to the hospital of silent hill)

I love that Pyramid head on the cover...why do they shun us Americans when we dump the most money into buying the games \-/o!

Thanks DG!

SH5 starts out with a trucker driving you to your hometown.

The town's name is Shepherd's Glen, I'm guessing it's named after the main characters ancestor or something because Alex's last name is also Shepherd.
You come home and find it's shrouded in fog and the town has become a ghost town.

When you start to meet people, you find out that everyone has something in common (except Deputy Wheeler who's just a typical cop, and Curtis Ackers).
There's somebody in the family that's "missing".

Other characters in the game

Adam Shepherd - Father of Alex and Josh Shepherd, husband of Lillian Shepherd. He never treated Alex like his son, and was favoring Josh over Alex.

Lillian Shepherd - Mother of Alex and Josh Shepherd, wife of Adam Shepherd. When Alex gets home, he finds his mother in a near catatonic state, only speaking in fragmented sentences.

Elle Holloway - She's a childhood friend of Alex's. After he left Sheperds Glen, Elle misses him. She finds out that her sister is missing so she aides Alex in the search to find her sister and Josh

Deputy Wheeler - He's the Deputy of the police and works for your father Adam Sheperd. He has his own ideas of what's happening to Sheperds Glen.

Judge Holloway - Mother of Elle Holloway, her calm voice and attitude makes the residents of Shepherds Glen get through these rough times.

Mayor Bartlett - The new mayor of Shepherds Glen, has a missing son who used to play with Josh. He's seen late at night digging graves while drunk.

Dr.Fitch - At one time he saved a bunch of people from a crisis, and was declared hero of the town. Alex finds Fitch with self-inflicted scars, and doesn't look like the hero he was acclaimed to be. His daughter, Scarlett also appears to be missing.

Curtis Ackers - Saying he can pretty much fix anything, Curtis doesn't like to be told what to do, and even though he's a very rough person, Alex can find a way to speak with him. He has clocks that need to be fixed. The problem with them, they've all stopped at 2:06, Curtis believes it's something that won't let them move on.
