Open the mugen.cfg and change the resolution to 320x240.

What motherboard do you have(google everest free)?

Also list the CPU and the type and amount of ram.

What is the brand and model of the motherboard?

You can find out by using this:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

I need to know so I know what types of RAM you can use.

Are you recording on Hi Res?And I had the same problem too.You have to lower the graphics acceleration.

Right Click on the Desktop,Properties,Settings,Advanced,Troubleshoot,Move the slider all the way to the left.Apply and try recording to see what happens.

Well if you were to upgrade your ram you will need 266MHz DDR RAM and your motherboard only supports 2GB of RAM from what I read.

I'd get two sticks of this product to minimize possible problems with mixing RAM brands:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820141172
Use a can of air to clean the motherboard of dust(make sure you unplug everything attached to the outside of the tower). If you want to push the cooling you can get a new CPU fan also:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118223

If you really want to push the computer to a higher performance you can grab some cable ties to neaten the layout of the cables, thus a cooler machine.

I have no doubt with this stuff that you have only a few problems or less recording at 640x480.

PS: When you upgrade a computer in the future keep the motherboard book to save time on the net doing research for the hardware supported.

No problem man. Its helpful for me to learn this stuff because I'm doing IT this year.

EDIT: Its helpful to use the can of air anywhere you can such as a usb port to help performance, just to let you know. I'd clean the computer once a year to ensure performance if you are keeping the machine for a few years if I were you.

Open the mugen.cfg and change the resolution to 320x240.

I run mine at 800x600 and it runs fine, it could slow down from the recording software, you might try something like Snagit or something else and make sure you have the right settings in place

Yeah but the problem is the extra program the CPU and the RAM has to handle along side with the OS. If you use hi-res mugen then you are stuck unless you can improve the performance somehow.

Besides we don't want small beep sounds in our video, do we? ^-^

I know if you have a p4 3.0GHz or higher you can use the multi-threading feature that allows your CPU to jump from one program to the other like the dual cores today but is less efficient.
