Capcom vs Snk PRO (DreamCast) > Capcom vs Snk 2
« on: August 14, 2008, 04:44:11 PM »
Why is CVSPro for Dreamcast so superior to the one for any other CVS2 game for any other system? I mean the effects and dual soundtracks are so AMAAAAAAAZING!!!!! This is what TRUE SF games are made of.... ^:)^

I happen to think CvS2: Millionaire Fighting 2001 (Dreamcast) is better than SNK Vs. Capcom PRO edition. Bigger roster, cooler sounding player select screen. Plus more movesets are available for my SNK squad and it's got the Street Fighter style 6-button layout which I was really excited about because that gives me back medium punch & kick.

Also 3rd Strike Chun-Li vs. Mai Shiranui FTW!

Most of what you say i can agree with but CVSPro beats CVS2's soundtrack by a long run. The only thing CVS2 has better than CVSPro is the roster and more moves. Everything else (especially the system) CVSPro OWNTS!!! :-[

Perhaps... even though I liked the track played for Osaka, CVS PRO does have the superior soundtrack being that it has classic tracks from both SNK and Capcom games. (ALL EXCEPT THE PLAYER SELECT SCREEN, THE SELECT SCREEN FROM CVS2 IS SIMPLY EPIC!) not to mention CVS PRO was one of the first games in the series, so I'll give it credit for that. Oh but don't forget about the groove selection in two.

I thought the robotic sound select screen song from CVSPro was better than the one on CVS2. Kinda reminded me of Yoshimitsu's song on Tekken Tag lol. Hitsparks i will also give to CVS2. but thats it lol. Cuz the many grooves just messed everything up. That and the ratio system for cvs2. The ratio system for pro was better cuz it was based on Cannon powers. On cvs2, anyone could be a "boss" for ratio select....

for me gameplay > storyline, so being able to stregthen chars that I actually enjoy playing as was better than being TOLD that my character was good or bad.

also, if both players picked 4 ratio 1 characters, the fight would take forever.

free ratio system > ratio system, at least for me.

Thats how that game incorporated skill coming into play instead of relying on what char you know will be strong like free ratio system. it is possible for both sides to win as well as lose. with the ppl with the low stats (4 ppl) against 1 person with max stats.... the team will have to use there technique and different skills to take down the one person. and the 1 person would rely on longevity and the skill of not being hit too much. With free ratio select, dan could beat shin akuma with no skill involved if the ratio went in his favor.....so to me:

skill > power

it which was the sole purpose of what CVSPro was trying to imply with its realistic system. becuz the game is about street fighting....not magic power fighting. Plus basically, you could get hit 5 times on cvs2 and be one more hit away from dying. Matches in cvs2 were too short and kinda just made it a quick button mashing match. Considering having grooves to weaken and strengthen a char waay out of context and too broken. in CVSPro, everyone had the same system, either one or the other which was a good thing.

Capcom Vs Snk 2 (dreamcast) > Capcom vs Snk Pro

In all aspects in every way cvs2 owns cvs pro.

The ratio system for pro was better cuz it was based on Cannon powers. On cvs2, anyone could be a "boss" for ratio select....

But the groove system added a whole new flavor to the game. It had KoF '98, Samurai Spirits 2, KoF' 96, Zero 1, and Zero 3 Custom Combo guages. CvS2 is the only place where you can find all those choices of power guage, for me there is nothing more satisfying than that.

Another thing to I hated how the ratio system was canon based; because to me it discredited other fighters that I usually play with in favor of the more popular characters despite their undeserving, overhyped appeal, for few of them... I am a Yuri/King player I think at some point in the AOF story they were able to stand toe-to-toe with Ryo (although personally I think King is better than Ryo) but both of them were put in the lowest possible ratio quadrant.

Same goes for Cammy, Vice, and Dhalsim. I sometimes like using them, it's almost as if they are insinuating if Dhalsim fights someone like Ken 1-on-1 he can't beat him so he needs assistance. Bullcrap. I would argue most of those characters could stand up on their own against the so-called higher class, they had to in other games. That's one of the main things that I didn't like about the game, it feels like they are belittling certain fighters and saying they are not in the same league as others when in my opinion they are unless the boss classes are counted because it's usually a common thing for bosses to be very strong.

You see atleast with CvS2 you can either choose to set your own rank or make it 3-on-3 battles to even things out. That way I can pick whoever I want with out them being in some sort of lower class. I actually love both CvSPRO/CvS2 select screens but I'm sorry, whoever did the goofy announcer voice for CvS2 he deserves an emmy. "Check your training wheels at the door ladies and gentlemen..." his announcing skills and way of calling the match makes me feel like I'm actually involved in something important.

"Hey who allowed them to join this tournament?! They are way too strong to compete, I mean, what's up with that! Someone is going to have to take that team down." :D

I also happen to think the audio in CvS2's selection screen is well played. It's in my top 5 best player select screens of all time!

In addition to that CvS2 had endings for every character. That's a definite 1up in my book.

P.S. They are both oustanding games and I can play them both on Dreamcast. =) Speaking of the great Dreamcast I just bought another little gem for my Dreamcast system today it's the original Japanese version of Dead or Alive 2 (not the limited edition since I already own it) :P I bought that and Soul Calibur IV today. :)

They added great instability and unfairness in the game. Try making a char with the highest ratio on K-groove and see what happens. 4 to 5 hits and the enemy is dead....

CVS2 didnt have separate char endings........it was almost the same kind of ending that was in CVSPro....

Capcom vs SNK pro for dreamcast was awesome I use to have it, but the thing I didn't like about it was you had to buy everything in order to unlock Morrigan, Akuma and Nakoruru they were very expensive you don't get that much money in arcade mode, I mean you had to buy everything even if you wanted to fight them. One day my data got corrupted I was mad that I whined up returning it. took me like a month just to unlock everything I did arcade mode like a hundred times just to get money

I dont think CVSPro had an item shop. I think that was just CVS for dreamcast and CVSPro for Ps1...

Ps1 version didnt have nakanuru...

That game is like very easy even with all the stars all the way up. bison was tough though but geese was easy.

Cvspro basically had chain comboes. CVs2 didnt unless u unlocked them.

i still got my cvs2 for dreamcast dont play it much though

Cvs2 owns much more then cvs pro though i got to admit when it comes to vs screen and character select screen, cvs pro has it down i loved da character select on there 4 buttons was gay and i dont like how they took most of the snk characters moves out it was as if capcom was jelous of snk.

Quick question here. In CVS Pro does Dan have Ryo's super moves? I remember him having them in one of the games but I just played CVS2 and he doesn't have them, lol. I don't like the stages in CVS2. I havn't played CVS Pro in a long time so I can't remember it's stages or music. I do have one complaint though: Morrigan. Her sprites look SO BAD in this game.

To answer your question Dan didn't have Ryo super moves your talking about Ryo from SNK correct some people mistake for Ryu or make a spelling error. Dan was PS1 version, but he wasn't in the dreamcast version, but it wasn't call pro in dreamcast it was Capcom vs SNK Millenium of Fight 2000. I can't believe I still have the game and it works. :P The graphic look way better in Dreamcast than PS1 remeber Dreamcast had better graphic than the PS1 at least in some game though.

pro did come out for the dreamcast. It was import only, plus dan and joe were the new characters for that game. You also had all the the characters, stages and modes unlocked from the start. But I kinda didn't like the game from a gameplay standpoint cuz my favorite snk characters were neutered to make the the fights even for capcom's guys and gals. but Mr. Bogard held it down for me LOL!! CVS2 was my favorite cuz the presentation was better. More characters mean more team variations. But I wish that capcom and snk would've thrown in a little more to us. Like tagging in and out as an option for both players. Have your squad chilling in the background like the old kof games. Stuff like that helps keep the fans coming....

so I pop a quarter in the machine and go "AW RAD! Blanka!" then I'm playing and happen to be matched up against M. Bison. He naturally kicks my butt because he's a ratio 3 and I'm a ratio 1. I'm being penalized for picking a character that I like instead of a character that's good. It's like this in the wrestlign games now too. I could fight my hardest as a midcarder that I like, but one power move from a main eventer and I'm pretty f**ked.
