how do u extract a sprite from ff?

how do u get rid of the heart any special way with photo shop or should I use gimp and the eraser also how do u put a sprite on top the pic like in this pic

go to fighter factory, find sprites then either go to save sprites as pcx or save all sprites as pcx.
