alright well when dogs have puppies, they all look the same lol

Actually, if you look closely at the picture, they're not all the same. That's the funny thing with cloning, there's still some variance in the clones. People think it's like in the movies, where the clones are exact copies of who or whatever were cloned. In reality, "cloning" is really just an unnecessarily complicated way of having babies.....

The woman who had these dogs cloned is going to be very disappointed if she thinks these pitbulls are going to be exactly like her dead dog. And she'll be REALLY disappointed if the DNA sample used was taken from the dog shortly before or after it died. That's the other funny thing about clones.... aging is genetic, and cloned animals aging will accelerate to match the age of the DNA they were cloned from. If the original dog was really old when that sample was taken, these puppies might only live for a few years....

(Sorry, I'm a biologist, so geek out on these sort of things sometimes).

Yeah, marine biologist actually, but I did a lot of work with genetics in college. I probably SHOULD have gone into genetics, since I'd probably be driving a Maserati by now instead of a 10 year old Jeep, and wouldn't be ducking collection agencies. But oh well, I love what I do even if doesn't pay much. I plan to go back to grad school sometime soon, and could always make the switch if I decided.

I'm against cloning, too. But not because it's even remotely like playing god. It's just like having a kid (twins, actually, since you'll get twins every time), except they only have one parent's DNA instead of a mix of both (and you DO still need parents! They develop in a surrogate mother and are born just like everything else.). It's just a waste of time, since there's so little real benefit to it. Cloning services like this one that grew these puppies are just preying on the ignorant. I'm sure their client paid an outrageous amount of money for this....

Say no to clones! Just have kids the old fashioned way. It's a lot more fun.  ;D

I compleatly agree. Anyway, is it true that clone age faster or that's just an urban legend?

[/quote]

It is completely true. Many aspects of aging are controlled by your DNA (although other factors such as stress and diet can play a role). Most animals have bits of DNA at the ends of their chromosomes that gradually break off each time a cell divides, acting like a clock of sorts in determining various changes as that animal or person grows. Some animals, mainly reptiles (tortoises in particular) lack this genetic factor, and could theoretically live forever if they aren't killed by anything.

So anyway, if you were to clone a 50 year old man, the clones would be born looking like ordinary babies, but their DNA would be for an older man. They will be missing many of the genetic triggers for normal development, and would instead express those of a 50 year old (like grey hair, wrinkles, etc, etc, etc). These people would not lead a very normal life (or a very long one). It's just a horrible, horrible idea.... for humans or any animal.

QFT. Actually more like tens of thousands of years. Think of farming wheat. Humans decided that only that plant would grow in hundreds of acres of land, and that anything else that tried to grow there or tried to eat the wheat would be destroyed. Kinda "godlike" in a way, if you ask me. It's what we do. We alter nature to suit our whims. We're not the only creature on this planet that does it, we're just much, much better at it.
