All of my friends have it. But they won't sell them. Nice idea anyways.

But they will stay mad at me forever. What I want is to get one without getting 'em mad. :)

I can't give any defensive reasons, because it's true is not something I truly NEED, they're right on this point. I just wanted it since I was 12, and I'm now 19.

Understand? That's my concern.

Their reasons? Two. One is that "it's unnecessary". The other is "I'm too old for videogames and should be thinking of other stuff".

You're old enough to get something for your entertainment. That really isn't a premise.

I know. But it's not me you need to tell this. But this "you're old enough" is something my family use to their own advantage.

:-w... Then we go to the same thing again. It's not that I DON'T want to buy it. I want my parents saying nothing about it. Which means I can't go behind their backs.

If you do get a ps2, don't mod it.

... I broke mine that way. Just go to a specialist, and get it chipped instead.  :|

Ok.. I think this topic should be closed.. right now.. because obviously you're not listening to what everyone is saying, and this is causing arguments in this topic.. so let's just lock this up right now.. I mean.. come on..

@eg6gsr: You must be stuck in the same situation as Ryu...  :D

No I dont have this problem my parents let me do as I please but I do respect what they say when I am in their house(that they pay for and let me live in)..Lets take alittle trip down this defiant road..Lets say Ryu does just go out and buys this ps2 without permission if his parents are that serious and dont want him to have it here are somethings that could happen...1.they throw it away(money wasted)...2.They force him to sell it and then keep his money(again money wasted)...3.They say ok you want it you can have it and then kick him out the house and dont say they can't just do that cause he is old enough and again its their house(and there is nothing like getting kicked out over a ps2)..ATICE you have to remember not all parents are like yours and will let you get away with whatever you want so its not so cut and dry for ryu to just either buy it or don't............. Now to Ryu try and get the idea of a ps2 being more than just a gaming system.. I know most people have these but go for the dvd player and games like eye toy(you know try to make them want it) and if they still say no then you may just have to wait

Thanks for understanding. :)

I've tried to get them that idea, but it's useless because we used to have a plain DVD player and none of my family has ever used it, save for me (I have a Star Wars III original DVD movie) so we ended up giving it away. ;*))

My parents are stuck in the VCR generation. (Dad's 50 years old and mama's 48) :P

Remember it's 8 years I've been wdanting it, so how longer do I have to wait? There's a PS3 already and PS2 is growing (if not has grown) obsolete... I guess I'll wait for my birthday as the final date (January 20th).

Wait, I thought awhile ago you were given a choice between a laptop and a ps3 some time ago....

If I remembered correctly, you chose laptop.

I was forced to get the laptop.

I wanted to get something and what I wanted was a PS2 a PS3 or a laptop. I talked to my family and well... had no other choice. ;*))

Question do they allow you to play video games at all, (guesing you must play mugen), you can't just buy /download) computer games.  I guess your really asking how can I convince them let you buy games.  Do they let you watch tv, movies, ipods, stuff like that.  The only thing I can tell you to do is research the average age of a gamer.  Another question you don't haft to answer how old are your parents. If their about 60 it may be a lost cause, (yes I know elders by games.... Wii). Do you have a psone?  To really help you, we first need to overcome your parents objections.  For example, I'm a christian I object to certains games and show because of that.  What is your parents real objection.  Your to old or its uncessary is not their will problem
This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life!

but it`s not a problem of letting him play or not:it`s a fact that they don`t want to spend money on the console because in their opinion "it`s a waste of money just to play games"
That`s why he was almost "forced" to pick the laptop before...if he picked the PS2,he might have ended up with nothing  %-(

Up to answering the questions.

Do they allow you to play videogames at all? - Yes, no problem with that. They don't like it though, because I'm a TRUE FAN and I prefer playing videogames to going out (but that's another story, I'll answer if you ask). I've stopped buying computer games.
I get them from the Internet or I borrow them from my friends and copy them. They don't know what many games are about, but I'm not a fan of gory/too violent games. My family knows I'm a fan of fighters and my brother is a fan of sports (Winning Eleven mostly since soccer is the most popular sport in Argentina).

Do they let you watch T.V., movies, Ipods etc? - Yes. Even when I turned 18 last year they gave me an mp3 player (a Philips GoGear not an Ipod) as a gift. They sometimes mock me for watching anime, but my mother watches Madagascar and Ice Age when they air them on T.V. so I mock her as well. :)

A Psone? --- I still have an old PSX (PS1) which my grandma gave me as a gift in year 2000. That's the last console I ever had. I had a Famicom and a Megadrive before when I was 5 to 8. When I got the PSX I was 11.

I answered my parents' age above: Dad's 50 and Mom's 48.

They real motives? I think those I said are their real motives.

Being unnecesary and a waste of money: I can't refuse the fact that since it's an entertaining system, it's not really "necessary" as another appliance. We gotta admit that.

Gamers' average age: Anyone can be a gamer. But since they're from the VCR generation they can't understand this.

They think that since I'm different from people my age in Argentina (due to the fact that I'd rather stay at home than go out) I've some kind of autism. Mama says for example that I should think of gathering a group of friends and go out somewhere. Too bad I'm not close to where they live, and besides I'm not the type to go to pubs, discos, etc. I'd go to anime conventions, but nobody will go besides myself. My brother (turns 18 in September) doesn't want to help me. He says I should save and get a ride that we both can use, but I can't drive yet (I'll take driving lessons in the summer) and I wouldn't use a car that much since I mainly go to college and back, and I can handle myself pretty well on a bus.

(I made a post before saying what of a hypocrite my brother is, 'cause he steals my laptop to play Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Pro Evolution Soccer. Since I have nothing to do I let him play anyways).

Now about religion: Since my mother has Italian heritage, she's a Christian but doesn't attend masses or anything. My dad is an atheist. My brother and I were christened in the Christian religion, but we became atheists as well (not that we have any problem with religious people, please). So no one in my family does really have any religious objections.

That's all the questions you asked me. Feel free to ask more if you need any more information. I'll answer everything I can.

Well I can't go buy the PS2 right away. I don't want them to freak out and then take one of the options eg6gsr mentioned above.

But anyways I've told this to them when I talked to them of getting a laptop or anything else and I have good results in my college exams (right now I failed only one subject out of 7) but to no avail... that's why I got the laptop.

So you see. It's not that I'm reluctant to try anything. I've tried many things but none of them has worked for me. And that's why I'm asking here.

Hmm you probably should go out more.  anyways If I was you I would start talking about a ps3 or psp.  Why because you can play music, movies, blue-rays, surf the net.  You know its more useful than playing games.  This is really to see what type of objections they raise, not to actually get one.  If they say its okay then make sure you buy a ps3 that can play ps2 games some of them don't.  If they say no report back to us their new obectjions even if its the same one.

I'm guessing from hearing you talk (not really since where on the next) that they have more of a problem with your personal interest.  They think kids should hang out and are finding ways  to force you into it.  If they let you play games watch anime (of all things) they can't serouis have a problem with you wasting time.  I was saying show them a game age report.

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life!

I have talked about PS3 and others systems' extra-gaming functions with them before I got my laptop (see back to VKM's post), and their "uselessness" objection comes out of that point. It's no better than a simple computer. They don't even know Blu-ray and I've never see one myself - It's a nearly unknown technology where I live. DVDs are at their peak in Argentina.

About the game age report: There was one recently in a magazine and it shows I'm right: Anyone could be a gamer. The problem is they can't seem to accept it. They can't seem to think gaming is just like watching T.V.

Those are their objections. Same story all over. :'(

Hee hee ;*)). Now that I realize, that's something important I didn't say. Age majority is 21 where I live, so I'm not a legal grown man yet. I am able to vote (I voted in last elections in Argentina) and some other stuff.

I'm still playing PSX (PS1) and Project 64 Emulator, but I have my laptop and most games are there. I currently have NFS ProStreet and Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Although I have to do MAJOR tweaking to run them)... :D

To everybody who thinks 19 is grown watch(with your girlfriend or wife) the show baby borrowers.  Hay I like those disney movies.  Do you have a girlfriend (if you have no intention of marrying her she shouldn't be your girlfirend and don't ask her)? get her to buy or someone to give it to you as a gift. Then say such and such bought this but I will take it pack if you want me to.  At worse they will make you take it back to the store and get get something else.  Get your granny on your side.  Your granny is your best weapon.  I assume you tried the other kids get drunk and have babbies I just want to stay at home approach.

Maybe I could get grandma on my side, but it's something my mother disapproves of (this has happened a lot of times before when I was a little kid) so I'm somewhat doubtful. Guess I'd have no other choice...

I don't have a girlfriend. That's another looooooooooooooooooong topic to talk with me about (some people here might remember), so in a nutshell: I've been unlucky. :P

I assume you tried the other kids get drunk and have babbies I just want to stay at home approach.

I've gone out a few number of times before but apparently it's not enough. I never got drunk in my entire life. (I'm straight-edge like CM Punk - Alcohol-free, drug-free, tobaco-free.) My family know everything that goes on with that I quoted above but then say "Then look for other people to go out with". Duh. I just want to stay at home, 'cause I see no point in going out just to see other people getting drunk. And that's about it. Is that too much to ask? Apparently it is to them. :P

I'm still playing PSX (PS1) and Project 64 Emulator, but I have my laptop and most games are there. I currently have NFS ProStreet and Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Although I have to do MAJOR tweaking to run them)... :D

listen u should really beg them hell if u have to u should pay them to get ur own ps2  :P but just tell them im a good kid i get good grades and i have not got a new system in 8 years tell ur mom that its been 8 years i cant keep playin the same system. or tell them u will get rid of ur ps1 and all ur other games just to get a new one so u wont become an obsessive gamer.

4 QUESTIONS
1. DO YOU MAKE GOOD GRADES IN SCHOOL?
2. IS THE PS2 CHEAP?
3. DO YOU LISTEN TO WHAT YOUR PARENTS SAY?
4. DO YOU HAVE A JOB?
ALL GOOD ELEMENTS TO IMPRESS PARENTS TO GET WHAT YOU WANT.

Even though you don't like going out alot, try making a deal with them. Tell em that you will go out more if they let you buy a ps2.

Side Note: You should save up more and get a PS3 instead
OMGZ My e-feelings!!! (cheekslap)
