Worst Virus ever!
« on: July 13, 2008, 10:54:52 AM »
It caused me to have to format my PC. I tried removing it all day yesterday and I couldn't. It sucked big time

watch out for the antivirus xp 2008 virus, that's what i had. I was looking for a plug in that allows me to play .bgm file and i thought i found one on rappidshare, but it was this stupid virus instead. Be careful what you guys download off rappidshare

even if your virus scanner cleans it, it multiplies itself. And when I tried to format while in windows, it would not let me. It makes your computer thinks it's running a newer version of windows so you can format while in windows so I had to go into my bios and have my PC boot from the disc drive.

And the virus locks out your system restore so you can't go back and undo it.

It's a nasty little virus.

Heh happened to me. I had a different spyware so I decided to hit F8(where the normal windows and recovery(locked my the viruse) is), select Safe Mode with Networking, downloaded Ubuntu, burn to DVD(I could of used a CD but did not have any available), tried it before I installed it, I liked it, installed it, and I have been happy ever since.

Virus free ever since a few months ago given that there is really only a rare few viruses active for linux and every hardware on the computer was supported right off the bat. I use wine to run my windows programs such as fighter factory with a few minor bugs but it was only cosmetic when you looked at sprites in a sff file in fighter factory.

All my files were on a external Hard drive.

also if you cant seem to get rid of it they have specific tools at symantec, ccleaner does a good job, hackjackthis does a good job, cleaning out ur browser does a good job, and if it tells you at the symantec tool site that you will have to delete some files manually too, then you must do as they say. doing all of this with the helper of your norton and/or windows defender should get the job done completely. and i know u didnt do all that so...thats why i said you have to know what ur doing. ive had many virus/spyware attempts. im no cpu wizard nor have i got outside experience but i do know that my cpu is really clean. btw with all that, stop going to porn sites or clicking on ads lol. thats the only way u get viruses besides fake emails. for the torrents, everyone knows to scan before opening/playing..... andif your internet is temporarily off while you do all of this, it would add to the ejection of the intruder.

the virus didn't even let me access any tools. I messed around with it for 6 hours, I couldn't even get online to get the tools to handle the issue so a reformat was easier. Fixed everything and I have my PC backed up on another HDD and DVD's so it wasn't a big hassle.

And whats the deal with the porn?? lol, I have no trouble with porn ever because i rarely look at it, but I was looking for some tools so I could play .BGM files and bam this thing was on there.

All the porn in the wold wouldn't cause this stupid mess.

Guess I should have listened to the MS prompt asking the files wasn't digitally signed or something. Next time I'll take notice

that dosent mean if its not digitally signed its bad. but you could look for reviews next time or even take a gander at the file size. or even scan the exe...

I know a person who checks the size of the torrents he is downloading he wont get it if its too big or too small before he starts the torrent.

well viruses arent in the torrent itself. a torrent is just a gateway to the information. viruses can only be gotten if you open the file up (not the rar archive but whats inside the rar file).

I know that, because there are files that I download that aren't signed that are fine, but I know exactly what those files are, but this was a foreign file so I should have just payed more attention when MS threw up the red flag. And I was getting the unknown file off rappidshare so I should have been even more cautious.

scan all the time is kinda harsh....cuz it takes 3 hrs for mine scans to be completed. if you have good protection, it will catch it each time it moves. and for your security software, it actually backs the viruses up (quaranteen). so you will have to go to that section and still manually delete it. and when u do it you must also turn off system restore so that the cpu doesnt bring it back when u do a restore

if u can kill the source of the virus then u have won. if u dont want it to spread take out your internet connection when battling a virus cuz in order for most if not all viruses to keep spreading they tend to download viruses from virus sites and thats how they mulitply.  go to the local drive C then go to windows then system32 and find drivers then inside drivers go to etc then look for a file that says hosts open it as notepad and then tell me what u see. copy and paste it on here

lol you think this is the worst virus cus you couldn't remove it?
how about a virus that destroyer your hd partition table and removes your partitions with everything on them including your windows partition giving you the xp blue screen error and when you restart your pc you find that your hd is exactly like when you bought it and the next thing you know is you are starting from the beginning :-??

I have Firefox 3, when I downloaded the file off rappidshare, firefox 3 didn't scan it.

Security wise it's not so hot....  One reason Mac and Linux are so invulnerable to viruses is because they have a smaller install base, which means less people have one...
A lot of people don't spend the time to create viruses for macs and linux operating systems...because they know it will only effect a few people  [-X

I am gad,the last time I got a virus was like in 2001 ,that's because I was a noob at teh internets at the time  :P
