I'm sorry to hear it. All of my grandparents are gone now. Your family has my empathy during this terrible time.

Yeah...it really sucks when you know that you could lose someone you care about...last year my most-beloved grandma almost died,if it wasn`t because she got a good attention at hospital she wouldn`t have told the story(she´s +70)
@Capt.Obv: he actually meant liquid...it can cause you to stop breathing due to the lungs not working properly

sorry to hear about that, it sucks dude... Man you're lucky though cus i never even got to meet my grandfathers. i mean non of them, they all died before i was born.... yeah, i always wonder what they were like... And my dad died when i was 18, my last year of school, he didn't gt to see me graduate.... I can't tell you how it felt walking on that stage and getting my diploma and i looked out to where my family was and he wasn't there.... it was the wrost feeling ever... And the reason being cus i remember when him and my mom wasn't getting along too well and i was being honored on honor night when i was younger, and i didn't expect to see him and he surprised me and came oiut of nowhere and took a picture of me and i ran to him just as happy as i could be cus i hadn't seen him in a long time and i never thought i would see hm there that night... hahaha, i sorta ran into him like they do on movies and i hugged him and we both fell infront of everybody and everybody was like awwwwww...... and then we got up and he said, "I'm proud of you son, i'm so proud." that is one thing that i will never forget.... Me and my dad also had our last meal together back in 2004... he keot on tellin me stuff like, "Son make sure you find a good girl that will luv you till your end of days and don't make the same mistake i did with your mom, and also make somethin out of your self and make yourself and me feel proud" I thought he was just talking like that cus he normally would tell me things like that when i haven't seen him in awhile... but little did i kno that he was saying that cus he knew that his days were coming to a end.... and he called me the night before he died and i was being young and stupid and didn't answer cus i was tired and didn't feel like talking so i said to myself i'd call him the next morning.... Well when i woke up my sister and mom told me, he was gone forever.... I felt like i lost everything, my motivator, my father and my bestest friend..... But, eventually i picked myself up and realized that by doin what my father told me to do the last time i actually talked to him, it makes me feel better and helps me cope with everything... Makes me feel like he's still here with me.....

Sadly I never met any of my actual grandparents,
my grandfather and grandmother on my father side are both dead.

My grandparents on my mothers side... well it's complicated... I always thought my grandmother was dead until I found out some things, and I still have never seen her, my grandfather... I guess he left the family he had and started a new one.

I know what it's like to lose a greatgrandmother though. The hardest part is how it happens.

I was 11 and I saw her body zipped up in a body bag. It wasn't the first time I saw a dead body (the first time was my dad at the funeral), I guess anybody else at that age could have been traumatized. I just didn't know what to make of it at the time.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather Gold_TSG.

I'm sorry to hear this, Gold. I watched my father waste away in a hospital bed on my 16th birthday, and then both of my grandfathers and one of my grandmothers not long after (my grandparents on my father's side passed within 2 months of eachother). My other grandmother died more recently from a stroke. No matter how it happens, losing a loved one is never easy. And when you know it's coming and only get to watch.... well that's probably the worst part.

If it's possible for you to see your grandfather and you haven't done so, I would suggest you try and do so. It may be very tough to see him in the state he's in, but it can make it easier to say goodbye.

Right now family and friends are the best thing for you. If you're depressed, talk to them about it. And try to remember all of the good memories you have with your grandfather. When my father died, my whole family (aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc) spent days together just swapping stories and focusing on what he had given to all of us. At his wake, when his co-workers and other people not related to us stopped in, everyone was surprised by how much all of were laughing and smiling. It was something that really helped me come to terms with everything in the long run (and I do mean the LONG run - last year was the first time the anniversary of his death passed without me realizing). It sucks, but this is something we all have to face at some point in our lives. The key is focus on life, not death.

@ r@ce 45: Man, it was almost exactly the same with my father, except he gave me his speech in the car after picking me up from school ( I lived with my mom and step-dad at the time, so I was going to spend a week with him). He told me "If you have the opportunity to do something you want to, just go for it. There are so many things I didn't do that I wish I had. You've got to make the most of your life". That summer, I found out he had cancer. I've tried to follow his advice since then, but I still slip up sometimes. What's really kind of spooky is that I was just thinking about that speech earlier today... ???

Now that I think about it, my grandparents are getting old, they are in there 70's, but they are hip people, they are fun to be around, I don't think I'll be able to deal with their deaths, or any family members death... :'(
