Computer Virus or Spyware
« on: July 10, 2008, 02:35:06 AM »
when i open a folder like my documents or my computer an error message comes up before the folder opens it says

"System Error!"
"Attention, User! Some dangerous trojan horses detected in your system. Microsoft Windows files corrupted. This may leas to the destruction of important files in C://WINDOWS. Download protection software now! Click OK to download antispyware. (Recomended)"

even if i don't click ok and exit out it opens a new tab on my firefox and opens a download for some xp antivirus or spyware program. so do i download it, or is it just an adware/spyware/virus trying to trick me into downloading a program to damage my computer?

You should NEVER EVER listen to those messages.

Spybot is a good choice and make sure you at least scan your computer once a week.

The computer I'm using to post this was blogged down by spyware and its a good thing I knew about Ubuntu as my parents did not want a new computer. I still have my files because I backup on a external HDD; If you don't do that I recommend you to do so as its very helpful and its better than backing up on DVDs or CDs.

Nick is right. nor should you click on ads period. firefox blocks everything so i need not worry even if i didnt have protection. if you know what it is thats infected you computer you could get windows defender from microsoft or you can download the spyware specific tools that you can get from the symantec site. or you can get AVG FREE addition.

The firefox plugin NoScript helps to block bad scripts and ads. As most of ads are made of javascript and viruses on publishing sites.

Oh yeah don't trust any sites that say "low gas deals!" online, as its all malware. I heard it from the cbs6 Albany news yesterday.

hmm now that i think about it i remember my firefox pages kept telling me that some scripts were messed up on pages and asked if i wanted to continue but i clicked no. i already have avg but its not that reliable to me. i recently got advanced batch converter with u-torrent and avg kept telling me the crack for it was a threat and kept deleting it.i 'm downloading ad-aware and spy bot search and destroy right now.

If you are running Norton anti virus . For some reason it will say alot of cracks or keygens are virus's . Most of the time they are not .

Hmmm, does it also give you that message when you try to run EXE's? This would also include mugen. But I'm not saying Mugen is the problem, but it sounds to me that you have that nasty little dl.exe trojan virus.

i am now using avast anti virus, spybot search and destroy, malware bytes anti-malware, and spyware blaster. i used them and scanned my comp and things were deleted and i can finally use my disk fragment and chekdisc now, but that message still pops up when i open a folder. i left the windows task manager open to see if i could dfind out whats controling the mmessage and when i clicked go to process it is being run by explorer.exe

i thought of using the end  process tree because it said it will end the process and anything that is related to it are causes it to start, but it also says that forcefully terminating the process can cause data loss and system instability. also isn't explorer.exe the thing that lets u see the opened windows and files on ur comp. if i ended it i wouldn't be able to see my start menu and stuff, right? so what do i do. this message that shows up every time i open a folder is really annoying. is there any program that can stop it or show me the source of it so it can be deleted?

Try removing explorer.exe and get Firefox.

I wouldn't delete ie completely, just rarely use it in cases you need to.

Like I know Chrono Strife website only works for IE (he made a few DBZ chars for mugen and Cloud which was a trunks edit) .

I have IE but never use it unless that happens. I'm using Firefox right now.

There are IE Tab addons like this one, I'm just hoping its gonna be updated for Linux.

i don't need internet explore. its annoying as hell with all the pop ups and stuff. i only use firefox. all muy spware and virus programs are blocking it right now.
so are u guys sure the explorer.exe is internet explorer and not windows explore. bcause if i end that i'm gonna have  problems, its the thing that lets u see the windows open on ur comp. how do i even delete internet explorer?

EDIT: ok i don't think its internet explore. when i ope my documents or my computer and i use windows task manger and click go to process it is also under explorer.exe so i'm sure that its windows explorer.

Oh wait a minute.... o.O#

iexeplore.exe is the IE browser and explorer.exe is the windows manager.

You could check this on removing IE:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Explorer#Removal

Or you could always remove the iexeplore.exe but of course that would not help in some programs.
