I'd just hold off. MS recently announced they were dropping the system price from $350 to $300 so it might be best to buy a brand new one.

Oh yeah don't do the towel trick all you are doing is potentially melting valuable parts.

Also there are tutorials on google to get rid of the red rings permanently.

tried the towel trick 2 times and yeah, nick09 is right, don't do it, it messes up the insides plus the warranty, plus it only fixes it temporarily

If you get one made in 2008 they are pretty reliable. The others manufactured before that are loud as hell and RROD really fast.  Either get a new one from Best Buy or Wal-Mart and make sure it is manufactured sometime in 08 or wait for the price drop coming soon.

he's right too, i just got mine back after it tore up on me with the red ring crap for the 2nd time and i stayed on that phone tellin them over and over and i said it as simpleas this..."You guys can't just keep on sending me system that eventually tear up, cus everytime you send one in and it tears up, i'm sending it right back, so we can do this time after time again, or you can just send me one that works and make sure it is produced in 08 meaning ,brand new 360 made this year.... matter of fact, this month... and well so far eveything is good....

Sadly it takes them two years to fix the major problems. [-X

When I got my original 60GB US PS3 last summer it never crashed once to this date with anything hardware related. It did freeze when I was playing Army of Two but that was thumb prints that I had on the disc.

Still even if it has a high failure rate just like the Dreamcast, it has the best games, and games are what the consoles are about IMO

One thing for sure Microsoft should not of done was the X-clamps. The only reason the 360 has more games is that it was released a year earlier.

i think its safe to buy the used one. even if the red ring of death happens u can send it ti the company to get it fixed or replaced. there warranty is free and its for like 3 years. i got mine replaced a while back for a new model 360 and i haven't had any problems, and its a lot less noisy than it was before (it used to sound like some kind of  spaceship) u could also wait for the price drop a newer 360 might be better for u. its ur choice :-??

Yes, but it can be time consuming.
